I think we're all talking around the fact that with a couple extra pieces that grille could read "POOP".

The plate is a coincidence because it doesn't follow Massachusetts vanity plate rules, and all vanity plates renew in November in this state.

From waaaaay back on page 284 but... HO-LEE-SHEEEIT that's Jiffy Lube #2073 on the right, and my best friend was the store manager back in 2002. Kenmore, WA is full of terrible car poo poo that goes way above and beyond that tailgate logo. There are about a million stories from that place that could go in this thread but one sticks out in particular. Two guys come in with some kind of late 70's/early 80's GM V8 and ask if they can get some help removing the oil filter (vertical mount Fram PH-5). My buddy says he'll give it a shot and hops down into the pit. The problem is, there is nothing left but the base of the filter on the spindle, and it's basically cooked onto the block. "Uhhhhh..." Apparently these guys figured good ol' J-Lube would be able to fix their clusterfuck of a filter removal. So after my friend gets over the initial he tells these guys that they'll have to push it out of the bay and get it towed. They tried in vain (obviously) to get him to put oil in it so they could drive it away and he more or less told them to kick rocks as professionally as he could. They finally pushed it to the B of A next door, and my friend goes back to running his shop. About 20 minutes later, he sees them walk back from the Schuck's on the other side of McD's with a couple quarts of 20w-50, and watches them dump that into this poor car. Then they drove away down Bothell Way leaving a solid trail of oil and a thick cloud of blue smoke. They were probably out of oil again before they even made it to 83rd Ave NE. God that store sucked, but at least the kids at McDonald's were always trading us food for oil changes on their cars

Holy loving poo poo, I wonder if they realized that they were likely not getting any oil to the bearings whether or not they had any in the crankcase. At that point it SHOULD have been pretty easy to use a chisel to dig into the base at the right angle right at the edge and spin the thing off with a chisel+hammer.

# ? May 19, 2015 20:28 |

You can use a pin spanner on the holes in the remaining bit of filter, too.

Yeah, there are a number of ways my friend could have probably helped, but that whole situation had "warranty claim" written all over it if he so much as laid a finger on it and then things went even more pear-shaped later on. So it got filed under "S.E.P." (Somebody Else's Problem)

Those built not bought stickers always end up on cars where 'building' requires the removal of a few screws. Manz that build race cars for a living aren't insecure about what they do, it's kinda obvious their poo poo is built.

I think they have a home on hotrods and muscle cars and such, because you can either spend a bunch of time in your garage building it yourself, or you can throw a bunch of money at a shop for the same result. I see it more as an indicator of whether the driver built it or someone else, not if the car has been built at all. I guess everything's built by someone, isn't it?

A few months ago I learned about the ability to open all the windows, and the Sun roof, of my car by pressing and holding the unlock button on the key for 3 seconds. Thing is the unlock button (which is flush but slightly protruding) was pressed by the force of my keys and wallet sitting in my pants that I had left in a pile that night, during a snow storm. It was sub zero for the rest of the day and I discovered the mess early in the morning. A leaf blower was able to clean up all but a little of the snow and everything is still working fine.

My Volt does this. Ive done it with the keys in my pocket as well. I haven't done it yet during precipitation, but it's a really, really dumb feature.

Does it work to put the windows up? I could see that feature being useful in the event you left your windows down on a warm day and it suddenly starts raining...
