It persuaded him to actually download Alpha 2.0 and give it a try and he's apparently enjoying it quite a bit

Scruffpuff posted:I agree with all of this, but the line isn't always as easy to define. I offer a real life example: I had a coworker who was excellent at his job. For some reason, the CEO started to be a real bastard to this guy, tasking him with impossible jobs, etc. Over about a year, the guy started stressing out and making all kinds of mistakes. In the end, he was fired. Now during that year of decline, anyone could have easily made fun of him for being "bad at his job." And they would have been right, but that doesn't take into account the environment that created that decline in performance. It's different when you're at the very top of the company, you have all the power to make it not a shitshow. Then when your stress at the obvious dumpsterfire of your own making manifests as abusing subordinates and blaming them for all your mistakes then you're a lovely person with a lovely personality. I'll creep on about that all day.

JaucheCharly posted:Is this game some sort of pyramid scheme? No, because the idea behind a pyramid scheme, at least in theory, is that you have a chance to get rich yourself, generally at the expense of some other lower layer of suckers. There is no pyramid here, CIG is basically in the business of selling people their own repackaged daydreams with a glossy coat of CryEngine paint to make them seem more plausible. I would say that what a lot of these people actually want is something like a tabletop roleplaying game where they genuinely can try sneaking aboard starships in crates and fighting space pirates and exploring strange new worlds to their hearts' content, all powered by their own imagination, except the problem is that TRPGs actually require you to make some friends (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) in order to play them and I look at some of the backers that keep coming up over and over in this thread and man, I don't know how plausible that scenario actually is.

Chris was cool for a while because he was confident in his vision, and he made a couple of working products, but who the gently caress even was Sandi? Even when she was narrating poo poo, like the excellent youtube production of "please make us a spaceship we don't know how to do that here is the community spaceship now" the internet TV show, I can't think of someone doing a more wooden presentation.
