Jesus, PSI operatives get so many abilities and they're all ridiculously strong. I don't know if there is a way to beeline for one early on, but I might try that when I do my second run. The fact that they train outside of combat and go from being wounded back to the PSI chamber automatically means their training is hands off beyond picking whatever skill sounds the most broken every few days.

This is the second loving time that has happened. I don't think I'm gonna take demolition anymore. It'd be nice if it worked, but half the time it doesn't, and setting my soldier on fire is idiotic. I wouldn't be surprised if it could somehow destroy your own cover.

OK I have a little dilemma here.

I'm finishing up the Avenger Defense and trying to extract all my guys.

They're all on the ramp, I have one soldier carrying an unconscious guy, the Recover Soldiers counter says 0, but I'm getting the warning that I'm going to leave someone behind if I liftoff. Can you not extract unconscious soldiers, or is this a bug?

I'm on Ironman and I'm afraid to click and see what happens. :ohdear:

Nice.

Disorient All Enemies is awesome because it will tell you the number and name of every single enemy left on the map.

Rangers are just amazing with the conceal bonuses and shotguns have way more range than EU

On the other hand, close range bonuses need some work. Tile-away point blank should be 100% unless there are some modifiers at play.

Also, I need a mod that will get rid of most of the ponytail variations for male soldiers. They roll randomly with some kind of lame rear end lorenzo lamas wannabe haircuts far too often...which'll happen when you half of your haircut options are some ponytail variation

I think maybe Turrets count too? If you have a Defense Matrix.

Speaking of which, I made sure to have a fully upgraded and staffed Defense Matrix...the turrets are a little underwhelming. Barely any health, sub-par accuracy and damage. If you can't win with nine of your finest asskickers out there, four dinky turrets aren't going to do much lifting.

Just managed to fix it actually. It looks like it's a problem with pressing the 'refresh' button on the launcher when you have mods enabled. You have to re-enable everything, launch the game, quit, deactivate everything, press the refresh button, and then re-enable everything.

Suppression is just too good anyway, especially now that reloading doesn't end your turn. A heavy with suppression can keep a dangerous enemy locked down forever, though admittedly the couple of times I've done this to 'off tank' a muton while I deal with something else, the muton only puts up with it for a few turns before he dashes out anyway.

I solved this problem by always countering the UFO Hunt event. Fortunately, it hasn't come up against stiff competition in the "Holy poo poo that sounds horrible" games. Usually I counter the UFO Hunt, Vigilance (never again), or Infestation. Anything else is basically 'eh, I can live with it' even if it's not terribly pleasant.

The reason for this particular fixation on not doing an Avenger defense is that I have neither a Sniper nor a Conceal Ranger. It would just be pain.

I never had a UFO Hunt Dark Event and it still spawned a UFO after I took out the Codex Brain site. I had already done the Forge site, so maybe it appears after you do both of them?

I had a bunch of guys get knocked out early, so I rushed Revive Protocol aaand...never had anyone knocked out again.

I would always grab Haywire, so many of the most dangerous enemies are mechanical. And for some dumb reason, Revival Protocol only gets one charge regardless of how many medkits you have. It's very situational whereas Haywire is going to be useful on every mission.

The biggest issue with the game right now imo (besides bugs and performance) is that early-game hit percentages are just too low. I understand that this is par for the course for x-com but even something as little as 2%-5% would do wonders in evening things out.

Also enemies need more health as time goes by because once you get full mag weapons you can basically demolish enemies with decent tactics and 'nade spamming and enemies feel like they go down too easy.

You're worrying too much about the Avenger Defense. I had 3 people run ahead (2 Rangers, 1 Specialist) while everyone else manned the defense. The hardest part is reaching the target, but once you do it has hilariously low HP (about 10 if I remember correctly, gently caress those horrible health bars) and you can just NOPE right back to your buddies holding the ramp. I probably could have done it a turn faster if I'd replaced the Rangers with Grenadiers and their hilarious bombardment range.

Jesus christ this was scary.

So I sent my concealed ranger to flank that sectopod and pals after they got triggered from deeper in the facility. I figured that because the sectopod can see several soldiers, there's no way it would randomly walk in the direction of my ranger, right?

Well I have no idea why but it did. It ignored all the targets in front of it and instead ran through the wall to the left. That's when I had the horrible realization that it was going to expose my ranger and also step on the car he was using as cover. So I get this horror movie-esque sequence in which one of my specalists fires 3 guardian overshots, desperately trying to save his comrade from the rampaging sectopod. Of course that doesn't kill it though. So after it blows up the car, the stun lancer tagging along runs up and clonks my ranger leaving him at 1 hp. So that could of been disastrous as opposed to just really bad. Managed to pull out without him getting killed but drat I never had a scare like that in lategame EW.

The biggest dick punch to me is that previous difficulties modify the AI to make it harder for enemies to patrol into each other. So this means more likelihood of 2x or more pod popping in a mission simultaneously. Even Commander difficulty has a modifier for reducing streaks of hits for the aliens or reducing misses after miss streaks for yourself I believe, too. I can deal with enemies that are tougher and hit harder. I don't think that the modifications necessarily make it 2x harder, but you'd better be prepared for many missions simply being impossible if you have a timer plus insufficient soldier ranking. I was able to make it back from a loss of my team on Impossible Ironman in EU/EW once I was later in the game thanks to tech help - this is decidedly much, much harder in XCOM2 on Legend despite the slowed enemy soldier advancement time because there is basically zero way a squad of 6 squaddies could take out even one sectopod due to the far greater EHP in XCOM2, especially on times missions once again.

How are the enemies on the defense? I've started encountering Gatekeepers, and Sectopods are a once every mission (at least) enemy. I get the feeling, with powered armor and full plasma tier weapons that I'd have little more than a shooting gallery on my hands until I got bored and one-shotted the emitter with an acid bomb from the Avenger's ramp.
