That was dev time very well spent. Heaven forbid they cut corners on something so critical. I only hope the reddit community appreciates it as much as they did last time...

It says a lot about the state of the 'game' when a scripted animation is ground breaking news

I'm waiting for our resident dancy cat to make a video where he climbs a ladder, breaks into a t pose at the top then skitters away janky as gently caress

if only to further the truth that anything not 100% scripted is total poo poo

makes sense why crobbers wants his entire sq42 to be one big scripted cutscene

When has anyone almost kneed themselves in the elbow when going up a ladder like that?

I think I've worked out (partly) why it's so bad. At about 20 seconds the guy stops going down the ladder and starts going back up and the animation just reverses. That is completely not how humans work.

And that from a company that has 2 3 4 mocap studios?

Edit. Some help from good ol' Fred to show how ladder climbing works, notice how one leg is fully extended at all times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R3-YwDZrzg&t=175s

Funny how on any gaming site comments the reddit usuals can be seen defending the game. Not only defending the game, no, but proselytizing it. They have the same tone of voice as someone trying to get you to join their church.

I dont get how even if there's an animation of a ladder and it looks fine, that I'd give two shits about it.

Citizens didnt back this game to climb ladders. It's great that it looks fine but I wouldnt go to a video and claim the 2nd coming of Christ upon seeing a ladder climbing animation

i can literally think of no other game where some 2nd rate no purppose animation is treated like a viewing of the face of God

Also, how did they manage to screw up hand and foot placement to the point where Tomb Raider 2 sold the animation better. Sure, Lara was climbing on 2D textures, but at least it looked like she was in contact with the rungs…

Really, a discussion of proper ladder climbing? Normally I'd chastise everyone here for wasting their time talking about ladder climbing animations. But, since their is no game, and since those ladder animations are apparently the second coming of Jesus, I guess it's fair.

Still, I can't think of something in a game I care less about than ladder climbing animations. The only thing that really matters is how long it takes to accomplish.

why aren't star citizens completing a job safety environmental analysis before climbing these ladders?

where are the working at heights permits?

I still don't understand how a shitizen brain can see the progress that has been made so far and extrapolate that into all these insane gameplay scenarios and still believe they will ever see it in their life time or that the team that has delivered the current turd in a punchbowl could even manage these things..

Like just one example of a trade convoy being attacked by a group of pirates.

  • The game can't even hold enough people to crew 1 large trade ship in an instance.
  • No large ships have even made it out of concept
  • There is nowhere for large ships to dock or land
  • There is no cargo
  • There is no economy
  • There is only one system
  • There is no way for pirates to stop a trade ship enroute to a destination, all they could do is hope to stop it after it comes out of warp or w/e they call it
  • I could literally keep doing this for an hour and not run out of poo poo that is missing

And this is for a combat scenario, combat being the only thing that is even marginally in the game at this point. What about all the spergs who think they are going to be a space explorer or space farmer, space doctor, space researcher, space scientist, space entrepreneur, space this that and the other. How can they look at what is there so far and still believe any of this is going to happen? How? It boggles my mind.

This is a good post.
