Australia has or had a reality TV series called "The World's Strictest Parents", wherein lovely parents send their delinquent children abroad to get some tough love. Because apparently aussies and kiwis feel like the US south has its poo poo together when it comes to families and education for some reason or other. It features lovely things like a young gay teen getting forcibly baptized by Southern Baptists, and those boot camp programs which do jack and poo poo. So if you like the novelty of trading lovely incompetent parents for passive aggressive hovering adults who are differently bad, this might be the show for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ1SPpKyVd4

As one of the 38,000 in Mississippi I'd say I got paddled maybe ~50 times between Jr. High and Highschool. I went to a real small school where they didn't bother with things like detention. They'd make you stand outside class or write lines or some other dumb poo poo. Getting sent outside meant the teacher was tired of your poo poo but didn't care enough to actually send you to the principal. You just prayed that none of the coaches or the principal would be walking the halls at the time because they would without a doubt paddle you. I remember for a while in 8th grade they literally had a rule where if you failed to turn in homework you'd get a paddling. One day one of my teachers did a real lovely job telling us we had homework and so the next day none of us had any idea what she was asking for. So naturally she sent the entire class except for like 4 girls to the principal and he paddled all 20 or so of us in rapid fire fashion. I was next to last and he actually broke the paddle on me and let the other kid off. I was kinda pissed. All in all it was pretty cool and makes for some neat stories.

Just curious because the southern baptist churches that i've been involved with over the years take that stuff pretty seriously and you've got to be the one asking for it. And even then they'll barrage you with questions to check if your really sure. And all that goes double for kids. In the korea thread there was a guy who was getting paid to teach some teen how to be a "man". LIke, his parents thought a white dude with a beard was the bees knees in manliness. Stereotypes are funny sometimes.

JiveHonky posted:it was called getting jumped, i learned that it sucks It sure does. It was pretty satisfying to shove one kid's face into a brick wall and then haymaker his friend while they weren't paying attention in retaliation, though. It was a much easier fight than when they decided they were going to beat on and harass me for months while teachers did nothing. There were only two of them instead of four hanging out and I had surprise! Grade school was cool. What I learned is that when people hurt you for fun, your hurt them back harder, for real, and they leave you alone. I also learned that sometimes I guess you can draw blood on the playground and maybe break a nose and not get in trouble! Moving every year or two was great, because I got to get singled out and bullied at each new place. Apparently possessing patience and not actually wanting to be violent were not good qualities to have when constantly switching schools. Also being fat, reading lots of books, drawing and being interested in nature and science were apparently bad ideas. The point of this is, the kids that wouldn't leave me alone all had abusive parents and were also getting paddled at school, too. It was uncanny. Everywhere I went, the kids that got beat for discipline then took it out on me. I always felt so terrible while on top of those assholes when I finally snapped, beating their faces over and over, pushing them down every time they tried to get up and getting a solid kick in before settling back in for pounding. I'd be crying and apologizing and saying that I wouldn't be doing this if they had just left me alone. When I got paddled at school, I didn't learn a drat thing other than the Vice Principal or whoever enjoyed hitting children with wooden implements. gently caress yeah! School was awesome and beating your children raises them up right! At least high school was just awkward and I actually made friends and stuff. I'm a huge loving pussy and this was really only about corporal punishment being lovely.

We could pick between paddlings and a suspension. Everyone took the paddling, three or four whacks and you could go about your business.

My husband lived in texas until he moved here and they were still doing that paddling poo poo when he graduated in 2009 afaik. He told me that kids had the choice of detention or paddling, and the paddling was at least over quicker. I was like ???? what the gently caress ???? and it's interesting to see I wasn't the only one who immediately thought it was creepy and gross, besides being terrible. On the other hand he retaliated against a lot of people who would hit him/others for fun; it'd make them stop, like the poster above on this page mentioned, and the most punishment he got was detention. Meanwhile I wore a spiky collar to school in 8th grade and nearly got expelled.

It sounds really cool to write on an internet forum but "powering up and going super saiyan to bring the flying fists of berszerker fury to the faces of your tormentors once you were pushed too far" wasn't a realistic option for me when I was bullied and beat up in high school. There were gangs and drug dealers and poo poo. I remember seeing some big muscle freak senior jumping and stomping on a kids head trying, I assume, to get the candy out the pinata. People would get hosed up like that fairly regularly. I was a skinny dork with sally jesse raphael glasses, not a tough guy. Its good that some of you cats could avenge yourselfs but like I said, that wasn't my circumstance. In b4 getting called a beta bitch.

One time I went to lens crafters to get some prescription sunglasses and I was looking for frames and the sales lady kept showing me these garish red Sally Jesse Raphael frames. I was like hey I think I want something else but she was like no. So I didn't get them and ended up getting contacts and oakleys. In retrospect the red frames would have gone well with my back brace and headgear and braces. But I became a beautiful swan, a lovely swan.
