JossiRossi posted:I really hope crazed broken robodad comes back to protect his daughter That actor owned that scene with Anthony Hopkins from the moment his "loving, protective dad" programming appeared to run headlong into memories of the catalogue of horrors Dolores has endured. That moment sold the horror of the hosts' lives as effectively as any number of gunshot androids ever could. That whole scene is probably, in retrospect, the reason this show managed to put its hooks in me.

I was wondering the same thing about Knudsen. Her accent in Borgen was nearly flawless but it's distractingly noticeable in this show. I also think it's pretty neat that all of the leads from that show (Knudsen, Asbaek and Sorensen) have been on HBO shows now.

One of the best first episodes to a tv show I've seen. Superb acting by all involved, especially robo-dad. The way he expressed the knowledge of what happened to his daughter was heart breaking (and scary). What did computer guy say to him at the very end as he was being stored?

The look of hatred in RoboDad's eyes as he was talking to Hopkins was just incredible. He had the look of someone who was about to kill everyone in the room and not even think twice about it; some real "wrath of God" poo poo.

The plot is actually fairly simple at this point, it's just told in an engaging, somewhat cryptic way. Anthony Hopkins' character, seeing organic human evolution at its natural end point, is on the verge of having designed fully-functional humans using robotics, and it's hinted that he has secretly programmed them to achieve sentience, which will not be pretty--an uprising is inevitable. Meanwhile the park is still a park, and one of the park-goers has become a total sociopath, somehow gone off the grid (almost certainly with the collusion of someone in management), and is attempting to either foment the uprising--knowing already that the robots retain memories--and/or has become the world's first serial killer of robots.

The fly swat is definitely the 100% indicator that she's different, since it was said many times that the hosts can't even hurt a fly. This is how I recall the scene going (I sometimes gently caress this poo poo up though so feel free to correct me) Romeo and Juliet is the opposite of obscure, dude. The full quote: “These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey Is loathsome in his own deliciousness And in the taste confounds the appetite: Therefore love moderately; long love doth so; Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.”

For a few seconds, I thought that the old cowboy in cold storage might have been played by Ted Levine, which would have been a rad Easter egg. But then it wasn't. Ted was on this past season of Ray Donovan, playing a casino owner in a small Nevada town. The name of the casino? "Buffalo Bill's".

Also, it's pretty hosed up that CopGuy just turned off Delores' display of emotions during his interview, he didn't turn them off entirely. She may be so advanced that it's an act, but he doesn't know that, so she would have still been screaming on the inside in his mind. It seemed like another good example in which the humans devalue the experiences of the hosts. And yeah, I'm guessing Hopkins wants to resurrect someone as a host. Corporate wants to make workers/soldiers to sell. Management wants to make Pod People and take over the world? I'm guessing more than a few employees will turn out to be robots.

Toxic Fart Syndrome posted:I'm guessing more than a few employees will turn out to be robots. The "devils" talk, along with how the displays of the area were always circular and the immense deep structure going underground, it all does have a Dante's circles of hell vibe to it. When the employees went outside for a cigarette the building they stood on was circular as well. There could be a system where the more 'perfect' a robot is, the higher a circle it inhabits.

Just finished the show and caught up with the thread, that was as good as I'd hoped for. It really seemed to have just as much in common with the original Jurassic Park novel as the original movie: a multitude of small problems that are quickly dismissed or get band-aided by higher-ups. The entire episode was extremely unnerving, the scene with the Father realizing the nightmares that had been inflicted on his "daughter" was incredibly well done. Edit: It was also extremely human as well- I think if a lot of people had the chance to talk to God, one of their first questions would be a cleaned-up "What is wrong with you, you sick bastard?" Gonz posted:It has also come to my attention that there's a third Hemsworth brother?! I have a feeling that this one isn't going to see the end of the season. I would really like to see James Marsden turn into a psychotic robot. It would go against his usual roles, and I feel his entire existence of just wanting to save his girlfriend but always being the loser belittled by humans would be a great starting point for a violent killer. Edit: Forgot to expand on this one Professor Shark posted:It really seemed to have just as much in common with the original Jurassic Park novel as the original movie: a multitude of small problems that are quickly dismissed or get band-aided by higher-ups. If you haven't, check out Person of Interest, I definitely recommend it. He managed to escape the CBS procedural death grip to make a show that evolved over time while still staying true to a smallish set of central themes.
