Episode 6: Hokkaido Release Notes

General ImprovementsTarget Images on Loading Screen
The
images of targets are now shown on the loading screens. These are not
shown for Escalation Contracts and other objectives are not displayed.
Checkmarks added to Target Kill Conditions
When
viewing the objectives for a contract, targets will now have a
checkmark next to the optional kill conditions for weapon and disguise
to indicate if they have been achieved, or not.

Debriefing Screen shows Objectives Information
The scoring screen now displays a count of how many objectives have been completed. Example: "All objectives completed (8/9)"

Improvements to Gear and Weapon Lists
Gear
and weapons are now listed in categories, rather than tabs. This should
make it easier to find specific items. This can be seen when viewing
the Loadout, Career and Agency pickup pages.

Mini Map 'North' Indicator
Added a new option that allows players to toggle a 'North Indicator' on the mini-map.

The HUD now displays a detailed 'Visibly Armed' status
The game now shows which item or weapon is considered to be 'illegal'.

Kill Types in Inventory
The
in-game inventory now displays the kill condition of each item. For
example, a screwdriver will show 'Lethal Melee' and 'Lethal Throw'. This
is useful for identifying which item can be used for specific kill
condition requirements.

Contracts Mode - Tagging Targets
When
creating a Contract, it is now possible to unmark a target from the
Notebook page. This is to allow players to unmark a target that may have
been bodybagged or otherwise unable to be unmarked using the in-game
camera view.

Contracts - My History
Players can now see all the contracts that they have played, sorted by most recently played, in a new 'My History' menu.'Contracts' Page Adjustments
The
Contracts Tab has been adjusted to only show options for Contracts
Mode. As such, Escalation Contracts, Elusive Targets and Sarajevo 6 (PS4
only) have been moved to the respective page in the 'Destinations' Tab.
Elusive Targets can also be viewed as a group via the 'Career' tab.

Featured Hub Adjustments
The Featured Hub will now display the most recently played Story Mission, rather than the most recently released Story Mission.

General Menu/UI Improvements
Added general improvements to displaying content in the menus, across the game.

Improved performance with Suspend / Standby modes on consoles
Reconnecting
to the game's servers after the console has previously been in a
suspend or standby state for an extended time will be more consistent.

General fixes related to initial server sign-in
Fixed
an issue that was frequently causing players to 'timeout' when
attempting to connect to the game servers. Typically, this was affecting
players that frequently restarted sessions in quick succession.

I just started Marrakesh and jesus this map is huge. It just feels so impossible at this point :( This is the first level I'm playing with map assist turned off. I still have Hitman vision turned on, but I'm not using the "Opportunities" thing this time.

It's yet another day in the wasteland.

Latest Giantbomb (possibly only for subscribers) offers some dev-enhanced fumbling of the last ET, as well as a handful of dropped clues about what's going on in Hokkaido at the very end.

Apparently, there will be new types of security, with chip-controlled biometric door locks that impede your rampage, among other things. I'd also be surprised if there wasn't an opportunity or challenge where 47 ruins everything with his 1337 h4x0ring skillz.

any tips on where to go to start the broadcast so I can drop a moose on this guy? he keeps leaning over the railing and saying that it's not set up yet. I have way access to a security guard and a janitor costume. a vague hint would be best but I just don't see anything. do I need to be an intern?

He'll sit in the chair if you start the interview. I don't know if this happens on its own you might need to get the cameraman disguise.

This game is real dumb. In Marrakesh, I turned on the intercom while two guys were poo poo talking the general, and when he came into the room, I just threw a remote explosive at him and blew him up.

This game rules.

There shouldn't be. Just turn it on and Zaydan should eventually overhear them.

In fact, there's a fairly deliberate delay to it since there's a special kill associated with that particular trigger, and they're kind enough to give you enough time to set it up.

I decided to go the lazy route and have Strandberg meet me in the tunnel, and then just snapped his neck. Not exactly sure how I'd go about killing him inside the consulate, it doesn't seem nearly as easy to get around in as the school.

Easiest way I found to get strandburg in the consulate was to dress as the masseuse

There's also a glass of wine he drinks from that's pretty easy to poison

So kind of the opposite of what I did then — I took the lazy way by not even going near the school, which unfortunately precludes getting him down there (unless you pull the fire alarm, but good luck SASO:ing him then with all the guards around). :D

And yes, you can't really move around in the consulate, but you can get in and out fairly easily via the car park and the back stairwell. The only tricky bit is getting your hands on a key card, but of course, there's a convenient guard who will bring you one if you just wait or time it right.

There's a somewhat convoluted way in that isn't immediately obvious and that requires some very well-timed climbing and sneaking. It is not so much a back door as the exact opposite, and if you've found that disguise, you're half-way there.

The leftmost entrance is next to a shop, outside which you hear the proprietor talk to someone about his father, the headmaster, who's upstairs. In addition to having the key to the entire school, the terrace he's on has a little nook at the far end (where one of the ICA pickups is located once you unlock it). From here, you can climb onto a less than obvious ledge that will lead you around the building and give you access too a drain pipe that dumps you inside the perimeter, as well as to a locked-off balcony for all your sniping and axing needs.

We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.
It's a real pain to suit-only into the school by other routes, but it can be done- there are luring options to take out/move away the guards at the checkpoints.

Yeah, funnily enough, it's far easier to start inside the school and remain suit-only as you find your way out than to try to get in from the outside. You don't even need a particularly sneaky route — with one temporary exception, the checkpoint guards all look in the wrong direction and don't reflect on the fact that the guy who suddenly appeared from behind them should not have been where he obviously were before that. :v:

I was thinking about what if guards were smart enough to realize something was up if the dude who they usually pass on their patrols/hang out with at check points was suddenly nowhere to be found, and I suppose being smart enough to realize the above would make sense too. Might be an interesting challenge, as an optional setting, but just imagine the headache trying to deal with that.

I actually doubt it would be that technically difficult given they already have the "can't get past me until I conduct a pat down" feature.

To be honest you can kind of hand-wave it away if you figure that the guards maybe just think that (emerging out of a single, closed room aside) you were escorted in through a different entrance by somebody. I mean would you want to stop someone who could possibly be a special guest of General Zaydan on their way out?

One of the more obvious weird bits about area-permission is the shisha cafe. Without a VIP pass even if no one sees you sneak in you will still be trespassing whereas as long as you have one in your inventory, even if you didn't show it to the guard, you're alright. Luckily half the population of Marrakesh is a VIP at that place so passes aren't hard to come by, but it's still a little odd.

Welp, this settles it. The whole episodic content thing can actually work.

Of course it can work, it just needs to be applied correctly. Most of the games that have been released episodically to this point have been story-driven, like the Telltale games and SE's own Life is Strange. At release, there was cautious optimism that an episodic model could work for Hitman because of the type of game that it is. One location has more than enough to do to tide one over until the next is released, which is the key to the whole thing. We have multiple ways and reasons to want to continue playing the game despite it not being "finished," if even for a few hours every week.

The true test of the episodic model will be when the FF7 remake drops. Is each new release going to have enough to satisfy people until the next one, or will the delays between releases be tantamount to a long and boring loading screen? Even with how good Hitman has been, I don't see myself desperate enough to play FF7 (again) to buy it a chapter at a time. But perhaps just having the option to buy in early episodically or wait for the full release in and of itself is what will ultimately make the episodic model a success.
