I wasn't so sure about this game at first, it seems way too easy to crash and die in the van, but doing some other stuff has been a lot of fun.

Nice recovery!

So I lost one of my headlights awhile ago, didn't even know where. I checked the airfield and the loading dock to see if it might have respawned somewhere, but no. I had resigned myself to just having one headlight forever when, while driving home late at night in the sewage truck with my high beams on, I saw something shining off in the trees. Could it be? I parked and went to go check, and sure enough, my missing headlight was off in the woods next to the dirt path headed back to the house. The object permanence in this game is pretty impressive sometimes, I lost that thing like three weeks ago in game time.

Also, while doing a job in the early morning, I saw an animal running around near the treeline! Looked like it could have been a moose or something. I didn't know animals were even in the game.

It was, and I actually did pretty well after that. I've got my functional summer car with rad body kit in for a wheel alignment at the shop and I just need to go make some more cash to get the sweet racing carb to go with my racing exhaust. I did flip the Ferndale though...

So I can't figure out why my car won't drive. The best I got is that I tightened the half rod bolts that go to the engine BEFORE setting the engine. Now, since then I've untightened and retightened them MULTIPLE TIMES but no matter what it still doesn't drive at all. There's also the possibility I didn't hook up the gear shift quite right but I'm not certain where to check that part of it.

Maddening and yet this is part of the entertainment.

There's three bolts on the gear linkage that you can check, but what's messed me up was the master cylinder for the clutch and the bolts along its lines. Without those, you can add fluid but it will just empty out. There's also a bolt near the clutch on the engine on one of those rusty parts poking out that might be relevant and is easy to miss, too.

The halfshafts also rely on the bolt in the center of the wheels, but I assume you got those (man, now I want to see what it does if that bolt is loose).

Before complaining about how I can't make the bootlid stay on, I checked the list of known issues and what do I see at the very bottom: Stability issue with Satsuma bootlid.
I just drove my satsuma to get the body and bootlid repaired, so that's probably few thousands of markka spent on nothing. :p

How much fuel does satsuma use btw? I previously filled it up at the pump, and once I was back home, I had half a tank left. That seems excessive. I got the air/fuel gauge, and adjusted the stock carb to give me ~15 when warm, so it shouldn't be a rich mixture issue. (And I doubt that the tuner carb helps, if anything it should increase fuel usage as it gives more hp.)

There are moose running around, and going by real-life examples, they're mostly active around sunset/sunrise. But sighting one is rare enough that there are people on the steam suggestion forum asking for moose to be added, when they're already in. :v:

And for the goon complaining about the van/truck/tractor, be glad that the only thing that can go wrong with them is running out of fuel. And it's nigh impossible to get yourself killed with the truck!

[edit] I should check if modding has been suggested, because I'm going to paint satsuma in that dark-blue metallic colour that my actual Datsun 100A was, and I'd love it to have the actual licence plate I had on my car.

[edit2] Oh gently caress, this explains why my car was losing parts while sitting still:

quote:

Did you load a save that you forcequit/quit without saving? And if so, did you quit because of something breaking in the car? If so, its a known bug: screw/mesh states get saved despite not saving while quitting. If you didn't quit without saving or your parts didnt break before that, then its a bug.

I had this happen and so I went home and made a new envelope and posted in. Now the bill came in and it's way too high and I think it may have ordered everything twice (I don't have enough money to actually pay for it, so I haven't been able to check yet). I think when the septic truck jumped it may have somehow launched the envelope into the mailbox and I ordered all my racing parts twice :smith:

Thank god for the sewage truck parking brake fix and strengthening the crap hose.

So I restarted the game completely. Multiple times before getting frustrated and playing without permadeath. I built everything back up, got the engine in, and this time noticed the aforementioned clutch screws. So I screwed everything in and now it runs and moves. However, I now have the problem MANY people in here have where the brakes don't work. Except I thought I screwed every small nut on every line I could find in, so I'm not certain where to fix this. I double-checked last night but it was 5AM (I started playing at midnight without loving realizing how much time went by) so I may have been too tired to do it right.

gently caress the physics. I'm all in favor of physics fuckery but trying to push the car into the garage to put it over the bay bashed the poo poo out of the car, jerked the car randomly and put a set of tires into the bay, and cost me roughly thirty minutes of trying to push and tow it out of the bay without any luck and causing even more damage to the chassis. It's so beat up that all the components are either halfway or completely through the frame.

well the only reason i've found so far to put the car in the garage is to install the exhaust, and at that point you can drive the thing in the garage w/o the exhaust and then install it.

For the brakes, if they don't work right after the first time and you can't find whatever hookup is wrong, I'd suggest just taking it to the mechanic in town. It's easy enough to drive it there slowly with no brakes rather than driving yourself insane trying to find which of the thousand brake line connectors you missed.
