Well okay! You're going to get a wiiiide variety of tastes in this thread then, hope they all help you explore some new music in some way.

Some of my faves (these are all Canadian bands so some international variety 4 u) in recent years are:

-Wintersleep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqJxjR-jBbU
-The Tourist Company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RG0-jL9b1c
-Dear Rouge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Puq3uMCtMWU
-Wildlife https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af47MJSd5BU
-Fast Romantics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3blkRlz7zI
-Arkells https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VexuUr4pN-Q
-Strumbellas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G30zoAmPwFE
-The Zolas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh8e_zuss2I

I've started on mine, but don't feel as pumped as I did last year. Lot of good singles, but albums fell short for me.

I agree, even a number of albums I really like there's still a couple songs I'm less stoked on. It's been a year of singles for sure.

In some vein of Clam Down, I have some bias towards some local bands. Just some ones to pull:

Tunde Olaniran - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mxOqWO2tE8

Valley Hush - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJHM6RlzCxU

Lapsley - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO9LaRqlxlM

High Tyde - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3hzVjMJPEU

Angel Olsen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nleRCBhLr3k

YUM - http://yummusic.bandcamp.com/album/yum (like this entire album, local band that just broke up)

Mobley - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjD1xH5GyKU

Skating Polly - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikrcCULHhc4

Sky Ferreira - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC77NtzW7U4

Queen Kwong - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEW-5cyDzi8

More bigger name stuff on my list, but this is some lesser know stuff I think.

Edit> Some of your stuff is region restricted, Clam Down. Which is super annoying because I live like 20 minutes from Canada.

My recommendation is always gonna be Mutemath. Their newest album (not counting a remix album) is called Vitals. It's more synth-heavy than the rest of their catalog, but any album is a good entry point for them; they haven't put out a bad one. The only one that wouldn't really be a good entry point is their remix album, but that does have some choice tracks on it too:

"Changes"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T06MgGlyjbY

"Vitals" remix featuring Flint Eastwood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqRwp9gSAiA

And then there's also this track, which is actually a Japan-only B-side but is one of the catchiest things they've ever done:

I wound up downloading a bunch of Destroyer. I love Bejar's stuff with Swan Lake and New Pornographers, I don't know why it took me so long to give Destroyer more of a chance. Apple Music is really freeing in terms of my ability to try new stuff.

Also Built to Spill, which is another band I knew I should like but never really listened to.

It's probably my least favorite so far. It's good, but also I think it's why I didn't like Destroyer much, because I kept starting with it. Same thing happened with Built to Spill, the only BtS album I had was Ancient Melodies, which turns out to be the one I don't like.

Carly shook her glass, willing the ice to melt. "You still haven't told me what the mission is."

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

Xiu Xiu's cover of Fast Car is maybe the most offensively bad thing I've ever heard, and I wrote about popular music of the Third Reich in college.

It was basically my introduction to Bejar (full disclosure: I didn't give two seconds of my time to TNP until Brill Bruisers, and have retroactively repaired that oversight), but now that I've really gotten into the rest of his stuff, I think I agree. "Bay of Pigs" is one of my favorite songs of the past 10 years or so, but I think it's only on Kaputt so as many people would hear it as possible after its single release.

Saw him do a solo acoustic set a couple months ago, and it was great, but I really want to see him w/ his band.

Now to see if I can actually listen to Frog Eyes for more than thirty seconds. I really like a couple of that singer's tracks with Swan Lake (Warlock Psychologist is excellent), but I can't get into any Frog Eyes stuff.

As someone who liked Kevin Morby's Singing Saw but didn't love it, I think the title track from his new EP Beautiful Strangers is kind of like a perfect song. It's really good — almost too good, because I'd rather listen to this 9 times in a row than listen to anything from Singing Saw. Highly recommended!

What do you guys usually do for a show? I have always been a skip the opener, aim for arriving as close as possible to the main act person. I never get front row or main tier views, but I can't say I've ever had a bad view for always coming in late. Unless a 6 4 ogre starts moving in front of me.

Depends on how many openers and who they are. I try to check them out ahead of time and get as much bang for my buck as I can.

If I didn't go for the openers I would have never gotten into FJM or sweet spirit. Only opener I've regretted arriving in time for is Bob Moses earlier this year, definitely not my kind of scene.
