Don't know if the game reflects this but the M14 is basically uncontrollable on full auto and isn't really designed as a squad automatic weapon.

The Phoenix Command M14 firing full-auto is about as uncontrollable as every other service rifle firing 7.62 NATO in full auto. Which is why I suggested the bipods so the M14s could be used in a makeshift automatic rifle role to supplement fireteam firepower. They're not ideal for the role, but they're conveniently rather lighter than any other full-power weapon on the list. I figured you could keep using them until you pick something proper like a FALO or Minimi.

I guess I can buy this though I'd prefer the HK91 even if it's semi because goddamn the M14 was like US Gov't Procurement Fuckups 101 and it's a piece of absolute garbage.

There isn't a FAL/L1A1 anywhere, is there?

If you buy rifles in 7.62 NATO, please buy anything but the M-14. FALs and G3s are more common and better in every potential way and we probably can get HK417s if we do a few phone calls.

Whatever else we buy we need:
ALL THE GRENADES - they seem very effective especially indoors and if we have lots we can throw a couple at a time to be safe

THE REST OF THE HEADSETS - radio chatter stops us being zneaky unless it's piped directly into our ears. Even if we don't care about volume, headsets mean we don't need to take a hand off our rifles to talk

I'll just throw all my money back in the pool if I can get my hands on that hella sweet M2HB. If not I'll probably snag some marksman-y rifle.

xthetenth posted:

What are those Galils chambered in, and how do they stack up against the M14 for something that can throw a longer range bullet so we have some options there?

I really want to end up on a crew served machine gun and will be training for it, but I think to supplement our M16s we want the following:

Probably about 3 marksman rifles of some variety (M14, M91 (semi G3 for the curious), or galil might do this job, give them a bipod and maybe a sight)

A longer ranged but portable automatic rifle to provide a base of fire at longer range while still more mobile than the M60. (I like the BAR okay)

Some carbines/subguns/shotguns for any close in fighting (M1, PPsH, Remington 870)

A grenade launcher or three for extra firepower. I really really like grenade launchers.

We might also want some M1s just because they're quite light and we can give them to ammo loaders or similar. As a placeholder weapon they're a good pick because they're still a gun but they're light and cheap as hell so it's not paying much to save weight.

Then get so many grenades.

xthetenth posted:

Basically my thought is we may end up with the following jobs to fill:

Long range firebase. This wants a crew served weapon and likely some marksmen.

Longer range fire support in a more open, mobile context. This wants a more portable automatic weapon and likely some marksmen.

Medium range team for versatile uses. We've got the M16s for this, and some 203s would add a lot.

Shorter range assault team. Grenades, subguns and carbines.

CQC building stormers. Grenades, grenades, grenades, subguns and shotties.

I think my proposal covers all those (fire)bases. We don't need to be able to fit all the team out for each of those jobs but enough for a 4-6 man team in each should work well. For example, a 4 man assault team could use support from a medium range team for the external shooting while clearing a building, and some long range grenades in support.

Grenades but yes.

xthetenth posted:

Yeah, I figured they're probably chambered in that, but I'd like clarification.

True. I do kind of want one [M14] for my own use but I'll probably just hold on to the M2 like a little lost puppy and leave my rifle at home regardless.

xthetenth posted:

We have 24 M16A2s already, I think that's plenty for now.

That's a pretty conservative buy that I think covers what we desperately need so it's a good minimum requirement, do you agree with my rationale for M1 carbines (cheap, light and unfortunately for us we couldn't just declare ourselves musclebound Adonises so pounds count)?

Also, we've got an M2 and I want it. So we've got that for laying down long range fire although I think we might want another M14 or two, and maybe a PPsH or two for the things they specialize at, although with shotties we're probably covered on the latter.

Wow. A lot to parse here.
So Count really wants the M2, that much is clear. And on a personal level wants a M14. So we'll put that at the top. The M14, I mean. We already have an M2 and a second one would be $20k but that's beyond the stipend. If you want to get a vote going to buy it out of the communal pot though...
Next was "3 marksman rifles" but since the M14 is mentioned in that list, I'm going to parse it as 2 marksman rifles extra
A bipod and a sight for all 3 of those
The BAR is popular! But it's already in our stores.
"some" M1 carbines, PPsHs, and Remington 870s. Let's say 2 of each. But we won't be able to afford them.
Gonna put grenade launchers near the top, Count "really likes" grenade launchers
And some more M1 carbines? Okay...

Right, the M14 is at the top, followed by the grenade launchers, followed by the PPsH because it's the most different to what we have so far out of M1 Carbines and Remington 870s. We already have marksman rifles that we aren't using.

[EDIT]
Oh, and yeah, lots of grenades.

Okay, we already have one 870 (Dread requested one be bought). The BAR (once again) is on the "to buy" list.

Big list here, let's see what Santa can do.
BAR is 7k, but already bought for our stores by Spanky. Sorry, I need to get the elves to make more.
M1919 is 10k
M16A2 - going to guess that's low down on the list since we already have 2 for each soldier, but for future reference they're $1800
M16A2 M203 - $2400 each
"like 10 AK-74" = like $15,000 ($1500 each)
The RPG-7, we already bought. There are some RPG-18s left though.

Obviously the M1919 is expensive, but with a few people talking about a crew weapon, I imagine that it'll win the vote to spend communal pot money on, should you (Popete) want to remove it from your list to buy more other stuff)
RPG would have gone in here, remember there are still RPG-18s though
I'm going to prioritise the M203 next, because of our abundance of rifles.
Then the AK-74s because it's a bit different
Then the M16A2 because we have those already

COUNT:

We already have marksman rifles that we aren't using.

code:
M14 - $3,500
M16A2 M203 ($2400) x2 = $4800

code:

REMAINDER FOR POT: $12,000
GRIMACE:

Okay, we already have one 870 (Dread requested one be bought). The BAR (once again) is on the "to buy" list.
A laser sight could be fun, then I'll just stock it out with grenades. you can change this later if you like.
code:
Laser Sight - $2,500
2x M68 FRAG ($1000) = $2000
2x M67 FRAG ($800) = $1600
7x RGD-5 FRAG ($750) = $5250
-------------------------------
TOTAL: $11,350
REMAINDER FOR POT: $650
Phew! That was a lot!

Now let's write a BUY LIST FOR BOGDAN based off the above
(I'm going to leave out the Illuminati plan since I have a hunch Phi has already processed that, and besides it's above)
code:

I edited the list to be 2x 870s in case both Dread and I want to carry one on the same mission, or in case one breaks, or goes missing, or we have to club a baby seal to death with it or something.

Yeah but Grimace is wanting the 870, so it comes out of his allowance. It's to make sure everyone gets a fair shout in what clobber we buy, after all.

I get that you are all good and within budget so it technically doesn't matter whether the money comes straight out of the community pot, or if Grimace just never puts it in, but just so everyone does the same thing, so nobody runs over budget

e: actually you aren't in budget, so yeah, that's the point of this.

My posts after that were when we were making recommendations for the communal pot when Phi started making calls for a group buy.

Y'all can argue over what else to buy, I would suggest bipods and RPG-18s but whatever people think they can hammer into a proposal and see if others agree

That's just the kind of trigger discipline that this outfit practices!

1. Keep your finger on the trigger.
2. Double tap is a myth and there's no such thing as an overkill.
3. Keep aiming at everyone at all time.
4. I do not aim with my eye; he who aims with his eye probably knew his father.
I don't aim at all.

I do not shoot with my mind; he who shoots with his mind probably knew his father.
I shoot full auto.

I do not kill with my heart; he who kills with his heart probably knew his father.
I kill with a 2x4.
5. The world is a target-rich environment.

By the way, can the game simulate Mozambique Drill?

We practice the Chinese Radar drill in this company. Two shots wildly overhead and then one square in the forehead. It is surprisingly effective!

Two shots to the Heart Aim Point, followed by a shot to the Head Aim Point should do it.

Mario wasn't sure if this Jeb guy was a good influence on Yoshi.

I'll clarify for count. Those were all proposals for communal buys. Honestly I don't care as long as we as a group get the things in Piat's proposal. Personally I really don't care and will just stand next to the M2 training relevant skills. If there's a matter of choice I'll just buy a 203 and a wad of grenades from her proposal and say don't forget the firepower.

Phone posting, so can't do the full quote, sorry.

I can only assume the gear setup works like this because OP just wants you to feel a fraction of the pain he does when he actually has to run this system.

FIRETEAM 1
Organized around automatic rifle.
1x Team Leader: M16A2 + Grenades
1x Automatic Rifleman: M14 + Bipod
1x Grenadier: M16A2 + M203
1x Rifleman: M16A2 + Grenades

FIRETEAM 2
Organized around automatic rifle.
1x Team Leader: M16A2 + Grenades
1x Automatic Rifleman: M14 + Bipod
1x Grenadier: M16A2 + M203

Please put me on the list of reserves. Would love to be a door kicker.

Angry and looking to take it out on someone.

I'm seconding the people wanting battle rifles.

Bogdan has left and delivered all goods purchased from PLAN ILLUMINATI, including small arms and equipment purchased with personal stipends.
Out of the personal stipend, $66,100 was not spent.

BUDGET

SMALL ARMS AND TABLE OF EQUIPMENT

Equipment Inspection

Overall, everything is in surprisingly good quality:

Looted Weapons:

Purchased Weapons - Small Arms:

Purchased Weapons - Explosives, Crew Weapons, Launchers:

Purchased Equipment - Armor and Melee:

Bogdan's Cousin has been hired as both our Instructor and Rangemaster - Training in Forward Observer, Crew Served Weapons, and Gun Combat will begin immediately upon next Training Session

Hired Goons HQ

New Additons:

Physical Fitness Training Center
  • Mercenaries, during every training session, can now increase STR and AGI.

Firing Range
  • Mercenaries can now train Gun Combat Skill Level during each Training Session. Bogdan speeds this training immensely.

Field Hospital and Staff
  • Injured/Wounded Mercenaries can be brought here to heal faster, as well as increase chances of survival. Serious wounds become minor, fatal wounds become survivable, and minor wounds are no longer worrisome. Grimace and Dwayne already being acquainted with the fine staff.

is it really necessary that our firing range point directly at our hospital? Given the skill of our mercs we need fresh medics pretty soon.

EDIT: looks I'm to dumb to read a map, seems like I'm qualified.

Sign me up as a fresh body for the show.

The picture doesn't show it well because of my satellite-photoification but the actual targets for the firing range are up against the northern ridge-line. What you can see most clearly is the firing line, which faces North.

Can it wait a for a bit? I'm in the middle of some *gyrations*

So out of curiosity for those of us sitting in the reserves, do we have some kind of "floor" XP we come in with as replacements so that the company isn't completely boned every time someone dies, or are we going full X-Com?
