Yes, my Noble has this and it is amazing.
Sometimes he can shoot once, sometimes a handful of times before the cooldown starts and twice now it just never went on cooldown.
He sits there on his Eagle while my main battleline trumpets Ride of the Valkyries and everything burns.

So is Skaven territorial expansion basically just you running out of food unless you're selective about where you settle?

I took over the whole of the Southlands as Queek, and despite owning an entire content I had like -20 food per turn because I could no longer raid easily and there weren't really armies to fight except the ritual spawns.

Remember that additional cities consume food, only a few special buildings generate it. I tend to use their provincial command that gives additional food to offset this, and almost always select the +2 food option during battle victories. Raiding your own territory and crushing rebellions helps too.

it's also partially dependent on resources - skrolk gets a couple cities near him that have a resource that enables him to build a couple food-giving farms which lets him not worry about food for a bit longer than queek

e: i do think it's weird that queek (who, while an rear end in a top hat, is just that and not much else) has much more hostile neighbors than skrolk, the literally rabid plague cultist who 'blesses' people by vomiting bile in their open wounds

This, a raiding army even in your own territory always gives you 3 food/turn and spawns rebels which you can then kill for lord xp and more food. If you have no enemies left to fight you can just leave all your idle armies in raid stance instead of sitting them in cities.

Raiding your own territory is so beneficial for large skaven empires I'm pretty sure it's actually the intended way to play and not a borderline exploit like in the first game.

One thing to know, also, is that while the magic forest is "uninhabitable", it also gives 3 food when fully upgraded. And since its a province with only one settlement, the edict is a net +1 as well.

On the real time naval combat issue, the CA lady who posts on the Total War subreddit has said that the absence of ship battles has nothing to do with licensing or Man of War, it's just something they don't want to focus on.

It might be bollocks but it makes sense to me- naval combat was a clusterfuck in Rome 2 and that was just a bunch of galleys. I imagine trying to balance a bunch of Dwarven Ironclads and Beastmen Narwahls or whatever would be a nightmare.

think of all the time it would have taken to build, model, implement and test naval combat, only for it to be ignored by a large portion of the userbase who would just auto-resolve through it

it's not like you have to secure trade routes in the game, or port blockades. in the old world, you barely ever had to travel by sea as it's mainly a landlocked game.

i think they focused on the right things - hence why warhams 2 is so good. we would have seen a decrease in quality across the board if they'd pushed in naval combat again

Rolling through an effective victory lap in my Tyrion campaign(just broke Malekith's back entirely, have 5 stacks with level 20+ lords and like 12 heroes running around in Naggaroth ready to break Morathi, am trusted friends with literally the entire world except the Skaven and DE) and while I really like the strategic layer as HE since influence is a really fun mechanic, I'm sort of disappointed by their tactical layer. I'm probably not going to finish this campaign all the way out because honestly playing them is quite uninteresting.

There's very little reason to do anything but build millions of seaguard everywhere with a couple of bolt throwers and two or three flyers to snipe siege because the AI simply cannot deal with silver shielded archers that also have spears and 55+ melee def. Every time I experiment with elite infantry it feels like a waste; swordmasters and phoenix guard absolutely truck things in melee, but they have to actually close to melee to deal damage and are absurdly vulnerable to being utterly obliterated by the 500,000,000 rapid fire armor piercing darkshards/shades the DE love to bring to every fight who will immediately focus fire said units because of the AI's threat assessment(incidentally the Dark Elf AI's unit preferences mean bringing anything without shields, long range, or the ability to very rapidly reposition away from focus fire is suicidal for that unit). Cavalry is in a similar boat; ellyrian reavers are okay very early on when you're still reliant on a spearman core, but silver helms don't punch hard enough to outperform sea boys at killing and dragon princes are in direct tier competition with Actual Dragons, who fly and cause terror and have nuclear breath weapons that can delete entire blobs in one go. Eagles and Phoenixes suffer a similar fate; eagles are absolutely horrible at fighting and die instantly to any resistance so are only good for very early siege sniping and the phoenixes are in the same tier as sun/moon dragons which are way better than both for only a little bit more money.

I guess I'm due to try out a lizard campaign because they're the only faction I haven't spent any time on yet.

Dragon Princes are unkillable horse gods and I would rather have them in a fight than a dragon who you kind of have to babysit, even Star Dragons. Highelf armies are a bit on the boring side, you'll do perfectly fine with 3-5 meatshield spearmen and the rest archers of whatever tier you feel like going with.

They just don't have much variety compared to even what the empire had in warhammer1 on release, 1 siege weapon, just a few cavalry choices and a few spearmen, archer, swordsmen and greatsword choices, the dragons are the only thing they got that are decently interesting to use.

Not sure what they could add in a unit pack to flesh them out.

Yeah I abandoned my Tyrion campaign after the first ritual because it was just disgustingly simple and boring to win fights - just camp out, shoot them to pieces and then send Tyrion to chaosdunk on their lord. If you go for the Heir of Aenarion-line (that boosts stats but gives penalties to public order) Tyrion becomes so disgustingly overpowered I'm fairly confident he could handle Kholek with relative ease. 1k weapon damage, 120 charge bonus, 140 armor, high 80's to low 90's melee atk and def.

I sent him after a lord and accidentally forgot to pull him back so he got bogged down by 4 mid-tier units and he just routed them all no problem.

Burn it all, get enough cavalry to deal with the archer spam and push them back north, consider keeping the ancient vault city for the 4 digit income it can provide, alternatively wall up your cities in the north and have a ambush army on permanent guard duty for the endless elves coming for it.

On another note, feral cold ones are actually pretty good, they are about the price point and niche of wolves but they are dinosaurs so they just eat everything and do pretty nasty AOE damage on their attacks.
