I don't recall that cut in the original stream.

I think they just edited out dead space. There were a few portions with long travel times.

I stepped on that rake and took it in a honking clown nose.

I did think the demo did part of what it needed to do. No major disasters for a change and sufficiently unexpected and dazzling enough to help reset their absolutely miserable narrative this year. So mad props to CIG for a successful execution of the Sandworm Maneuver.

The only thing I laughed out loud at was Chris’s string of “no other game can do this” type backpats. Big talk from a guy whose actual game still doesn’t let players land on planets nearly two years after “Pupil to Planet” and celebrated it’s 4th anniversary of not being able to add female player characters to the game back in the spring...

TBH, it was kinda neat. But who really cares, if they're going to feature creep the project into bankruptcy.

The thing about the procedural cities deal is that yes it does look cool, but they've implemented it in a way that doesn't make the game better. You can't go walk around any of them. You can fly through them and land at your little designated landing point on the outskirts, but the ability to fly through them actually highlights the fact that they're not real - it makes the divide between "real" (places you can walk around) and "fake" way way more obvious than if they did something like making it so you couldn't free-fly in the airspace around cities, and locking you to your little landing zone. I don't think anybody at CIG realizes it yet (and I know none of the fans do) but what they've done is to take the old problem of a player looking at something on the skybox and thinking "man how come I can't go there" and magnified it a thousand times. That feeling that you get when you land in a station in Elite and wish you could go drive around in one of the little trucks is going to be nothing compared to the first time Star Citizen slaps you with how fake the city is.

Sure, it absolutely bought them breathing room. A lot of breathing room. It's pretty impressive that by copy-pasting Cities: Skylines's city generation they've managed to convince a bunch of people they're digital gods. The two biggest wins for CIG on this are that they put together a relatively bug-free show and that they trotted out something they have been saying was coming "soon" for a while now. The first gives redditors something to point to when critics say "dude they're completely incompetent" and the second is going to be looked at as proof CIG is doing what they say (when in reality it should be looked at as proof that CIG has no idea what game they're building) when critics ask "where's 3.0, why is Star Marine bad, etc?"

Yeah well, trade-offs are to be made. Thing is, they're all boasting about planets, so there have to be big cities on the planets, even if just cosmetic. That said, I don't see a reason why the city tiles can't be walkable. Will be repetitive as hell, though. The demo already had low variety as it is.

Either way, as said before, I don't see this getting out of the door before that company goes bankrupt. The 3.0 build on Evocati apparently still hasn't planetary landings. Like what the hell.
