requiem: avenging angel's shotgun was triple barrel and enormously satisfying. i don't think i ever really use any other gun when i replay that game. also surprised by how well it holds up. it's not as good as i remember (what is) but the dash of half life-esque open levels and kind-of-taking-it-seriously story sprinkled over it is oddly endearing.

the Thief games and Daikatana are buck each on Steam right now. Probably some others too, it's a big Squenix sale. (I still think that the mashed together name is too fun to not say)

did people mod daikatana to make it better or is it still a bad game

Augus posted:Loverboy is such a satisfying weapon to use. Did any other games have a triple-barrel revolver before this? Shadow Warrior 2 has a triple-barreled revolver called "The Triad", but I think it has a 6-round capacity (by default) so you blow your load in a couple of extremely potent shots.

Thanks for the BloodGDX recommendations. Works great. Java sure is an odd choice but I'm not going to complain.

So playing thru Ion Maiden again and it seems like it has headshot location damage? I’ve noticed it with loverboy and the shotgun will blow heads off it close and aimed at the head. I though Build couldn’t do localized damage?

Ion Maiden is running on eduke32, there's some info from TerminX on locational damage here. Not sure if they use the same method cause that thread's over 10 years old now, but it's possible

Anybody familiar enough with eduke32 to know why ion maiden might run like garbage for me? Edit: And yes, Ion Maiden absolutely has locational damage - and it makes a huge difference in time to kill. DatonKallandor fucked around with this message at 01:40 on Mar 4, 2018 |

If I understood what was said earlier in the thread, it's because eduke32 is running off code that hasn't been optimized for current versions of opengl and still thinks it's running opengl 1.1.

![]() So far my favorite Ion Maiden easter egg is the big screen full of Commodore 64 assembly code where, if you assemble and run it, it plays the opening notes of Grabbag. I also completed the preview and still had like 35 total secrets left to find, so that's cool. This game is good.

Hell yeah, I just played through Ion Maiden too, very fun. Lot of charm and quality, to the level design especially, thumbs up.

Augus posted:did people mod daikatana to make it better or is it still a bad game Both. There's been quite a few patches to make it better, and it's certainly playable from beginning to end, but it's still struggling against some pretty fundamentally awful design decisions.

A great Daikatana bug is that if you start it in the original magic balls saving mode, get one of those, and then switch to normal saving, it will crash if you enter an area where another ball would be. One thing patches never fix is that almost all weapons in the first chapter have a good chance of hurting you, and the last chapter has a most generic shooter arsenal. The GameBoy version is just mediocre.

There are only two or three enemy types and a boss. Dunno if that's just because it's a preview or not

I looked over at the Steam discussion page for Ion Maiden*, and one of the pinned posts is from good old boy Joe Siegler thanking the community and reminiscing about 3DRealms past. He's got the developer tag by his name, but he doesn't appear at all in the credits for Ion Maiden. Is he connected in some way through 3DR as a publisher? Or is it just Joe being Joe? Loving Ion Maiden. Haven't finished it yet, as I'm going slow and trying to find all the secrets, but so far it's pretty drat good. Experiencing some framerate drops on a GTX 1070 though, I hope they can bring the renderer up to speed before the full release. * Edit: I regret doing this. czg fucked around with this message at 17:21 on Mar 4, 2018 |
