yeah but the corvega plant is after concord, assuming you're doing a regular play through and following the intended plot path. at the point where Nathan Drake is walking into concord, if the raiders didn't immediately shoot at him and instead acted normal, or even tried to make the minute men out to be bad guys, there's nothing in-setting at that point that would contradict their story.

like, as a person who has played multiple video games you could look at their S&M bondage gear and infer they might be bad guys, but up to that point in the game (the first 30 minutes?) there wouldn't be a reason not to believe them (if they didn't immediately begin by shooting at you).

I'm playing Dead Money on TTW Project Nevada Hardcore and thank the dear lord above I thought to get the health regen implant and rad regeneration perk before I jumped into this bullshit. It's not enough to nullify the corrosive effect entirely, but it mitigates 2/3 of it. I've also put myself at a permanent 400 rads for the entire duration of the DLC because doctor's bags are too expensive. I can't think of another part of the game where turning off hardcore is more of a temptation.

It doesn't help that since I've gotten to the Sierra Madre, I get a CTD on every third loading screen. All I wanted was a magic machine that spits out unlimited stimpacks and weapons repair kits :(

I would really like having to decide whether having access to a weapon is worth letting legion assassins also have access to the weapon. A grenade that explodes in a shower of cazadors instead of shrapnel? It'd be a tough choice.

A smarter game could do something fun with turning those expectations around on you. Have you come accross a bunch of Mad Max rejects who've got a group of people in vault suits under siege, then if you choose to investigate it more closely have it turn out that they're from not-vault city and the bodage gear types just launched their slave rebellion.

For 3 it's as simple as playing operation anchorage at level 2. Hilariously powerful weapons and armor + 5 bonus sets of power armor to sell once the dust clears.

For New Vegas I repair and sell the 8 or so energy weapons sitting around on ghoul corpses at repconn launch site.

I don't know why you'd want to break the power curve and exploration like that.

yeah, i would really like it if F5 has raiders that aren't immediately hostile to you. either have a raider faction or have multiple raider factions (even better) but set it up so that raiders aren't just mindless murder robots that have no sense of self preservation and no real goal beyond KILL DEATH DESTROY.

many of the most violent, blood thirsty warrior clans and soldier castes throughout history still came from a culture that had appreciable goals and institutions and a population of non-warrior civilians that did boring poo poo like farming and weaving. having literally every raider faction just be insane serial killers makes no sense.

the sane way to break new vegas is run through deathclaw hellzone and go straight to vegas to gamble for money at lvl 1 or 2. then use the money to buy int cybernetics so you can finally breathe a sight of relief that you got that thing before you leveled up again.
of course this only works in a high luck run.

. . . but the whole premise is that time is an issue, because the longer you play, the more likely you are to accumulate XP, which defeats the purpose of the exploit.

unless you're going to propose some specific route in that direction that nets 0 XP?

chitoryu12
Apr 24, 2014

So it takes 200 XP to reach Level 2 and 550 XP to reach Level 3. I think by default, you get 10 XP for discovering a location.

If you stick to the road and never explore, you'll hit about 15 locations taking the standard vanilla quest route unless you specifically run off the road to avoid accidentally getting too close to any towns. So theoretically you could stealth your way along the safest route and it would take forever but you'd be in minimal danger and successfully reach the Strip at Level 1. At worst, you'll arrive at Level 2 if you accidentally reach a few more places and have to defend yourself along the way.

how much XP do you get just for making your character and leaving the doctor's office? i thought you got some amount just for starting the game.

i mean, you could definitely hassle with all that, but it's 10000x easier to take the guaranteed stealthboy out of the school house and run past the death claws. you can thread between the quarry and the mountain with a single stealthboy and no investment in sneaking

I dont remember the exact xp amounts but even if you run straight to vegas through deathclaw hell dimension and avoid all sights that give xp its a pretty tight fit not level to lvl 2. You also need to discover a few places along the way like the doctors clinic and vegas itself so thats already some xp. Theres some loose room to discover locations but not much.

I happened to have a fresh NV install; took me one try, and about 10 minutes (sans RL interruptions) to get from goodsprings to freeside and I got broke the Wrangler and got into New Vegas proper before even hitting level 2. I feel like going the long safe way would take 5 times as long for no advantages. Also  at the terrain pop-in of an unmodded install.

Also I'm not sure how I never really noticed the :nws: Gomorrah billboard until just now.

I had discovered the REPPCONN HQ, Freeside, and NV and maybe one or two other places. Gambling at the Wrangler netted me 90 more xp for some reason (?) but I was still a few discoveries away from leveling. e: checked, 140 / 200 to hit level 2.

The pre-order bonus amalgamation DLC starts you off with a lot of equipment for a nice start in New Vegas.

I only had the Caravan Pack from my physical purchase (one of the last times I bought a physical game) but none of the individual items break the game and you can get a nice starting pile of caps if you sell everything. Shotgun and leather armor is a nice start, I think.

It's almost bizarre that Dead Money was the first DLC. There's the zombies, the holograms, the gas, the radios, the even worse gas, the landmines and bear traps, and you don't even get to bring weapons or armor. Specialize in energy weapons? No ammo, gently caress you. Repair skill low? gently caress you. Speech low? Your friend dies. Don't have light step or adamantium skeleton? lol gl hf. This DLC even gives you ammo for weapons that aren't anywhere in the Sierra Madre.

And then you get to Honest Hearts with 100 carry weight worth of the best weapons, ammo, and armor sierra madre gold can buy and whoops - turns out it's more than enough to bring swift death to every single animal and tribal in Zion.

Also if you do the pre-war clothing return exploit it reloads in like a quarter second.
