The only decent use for the fridge is stockpiling cranberry relish for the xp bonus so you dont have to farm it as often. Maybe the queen meats? Even then, meh. It's just a convenience and after you actually get all your stats and perks where you need them (level 75 to 100ish?), then you dont even care about xp. Between the event that gives you 5 canned meat that never spoil (5xp) and sleeping in a bed (another 5 xp) you should be doin ok.

If they actually follow through with the prestige perk system then maybe leveling will matter after 100.

Sidenote: I saw a level 712 the other day on PC. Wtf...

Fallout 76 has camps that you can build and are permanent to your character unless you move it.
. They are very similar to the FO4 settlements, but you can put them almost anywhere on the map.

CAMPs get placed every time you login unless done other player has a CAMP there already. Then it asks you if you want to server hop, or move your CAMP for free. You can always not move it and just play without it for that session. Even if you do choose to deploy it elsewhere, it makes your camp a huge blueprint so you can, in theory, place your entire CAMP in a new location (but the ground will probably make it float or intersect or something). Our you can build your new CAMP from the parts of your old one.

Admiral Joeslop
Jul 8, 2010

It wasn't always like that, either. Initially, if you logged into a server and someone's CAMP was vaguely near your spot, your entire base would get sent into storage and you would never be able to place it again.

Because the base building UI is garbage and doesn't play well with the various tricks you need to do to make something decent looking.

My 'field' research and whatnot is likely going to be on the process of radicalization in online spaces (becoming a nazi via reddit / 4chan and whatnot) so I guess I can study the path some folk took from denial that the game is bad to blaming all of its problems on the subaltern or someshit.

Fun thing about school is it really leaves me with so little time to actually play the game, so maybe it will continue to be a mystery. I played for maybe 15 minutes and it feels awful to swing at something in melee if I want to duck in and out of attack range. I traded blows with a lovely robot for a bit and then a level sixty guy in full american flag power armor gave me a bunch of stimpacks, which was nice. I wanted to thank him but I didn't know what the push to talk button in the game was so I just screamed "Is my mic hot??? is my mic hot??? can you hear me??? thank you!" to myself in my room.

For as much as I hated it at the time and hardly want it to return, the first few weeks of the game where nobody knew how to turn their microphones off yet were definitely the most entertaining. I had something vaguely akin to this but it was logging in for the first time to hear someone complaining that his character looked like a "stupid Mexican."

I didn't even really think I had an area for research until I vaguely mentioned the concept to the program director and he told me to go for it. I'm nowhere near ready for the real work to be done (literally less than a month into the program) but I suspect that irony would fit into a stage of preparation, that is, getting the noggin to a state where nazi (or white supremacist or whatever) ideas won't be rejected outright. Also it works as a real good smokescreen to casual observers.

Pryor on Fire posted:

My main spots to look at are going to be 4/8chan, Reddit, YouTube, and SA. YouTube is too obvious to not include, I have first hand knowledge of being young and impressionable on 4chan (thankfully I did not become a Nazi), 8chan is literally where manifestos of shooters are being posted, Reddit is also pretty obvious in my mind, and SA is notable for not really manufacturing fascists the same way the other areas do. I think. I might be wrong there, but that's what the research is going to be for. Facebook & Twitter likely should be included but. . . .I don't have infinite time and I'm thinking more about the Too Online Youth rather than the brain-rotted boomers, who were already lost to Fox News.

Maybe in two years I'll have something to share, and maybe in two years we can gasp in awe at how Bethesda turned Fallout 76 around and turned it into the Citizen Kane of Video Games. :v:

I've not had any hit detection lag lately but occasionally a ghoul will forget to stand up and instead slide across the ground at me. Scorched will often times forget they have heads until they 'activate'. Pretty standard level Bethesda jank.

The game actually lacks a lot of the memorable silly janks from Bethesda games passed

I picked 76 up on massive sale a month or two ago and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Found a park ranger outfit 20 minutes out of the vault so I've been running around as Evil Ranger Smith, murdering weird cows with an axe.

Still haven't felt the slightest urge to buy atoms though :v:

A lot of people noted this early on. Bethesda has been slowly shifting from satire of political propaganda to fully unironic political propaganda.

So I played it again last night after being mostly on a break. I think they’re really moving in a good direction. Like in a few patch cycles I could probably say it’s good for more than getting a fix or indulging in stockholm syndrome after the fix is satisfied.

Like I would say my biggest complaint is the respec system, but hell they originally planned on having none so I’m optimistic for it to get revamped.

The event system seemed to be a fun and good change.

Bought the fridge and roboscrounger on a whim since I had tons of challenge atoms built up.

(Quick PSA for new folks, playing the game while giving minimal shits about challenges can still get you plenty of atoms; don’t buy atoms unless you have literally nothing better to throw away money at or are impatient)

Biggest complaints about the fridge and roboscavver are 1) there really should be an attainable non-atom version even if maybe there is a restriction like you can’t have as many in a camp and 2) ffs the current versions are definitely not worth being atom-only.

The fridge having only 15 slots is annoying. Sure you can build like 10 but still that’s pretty lame if they expect people to potentially spend irl money. There should at least be something like a limit of 3 for the robohobo, not just 1. Hell, quest-attainable non-atom versions I could see having those kind of caps but pretty lame if they think their cash shop has a chance to make people want to spend money vs challenge freebies.

Most of the daily challenges are dumb poo poo like 'build chairs' or 'eat some crap' for 10 Toddcoins a pop. Weeklies can go all over the place, though, and the one that rewards a unique legendary tends to take some time and has to be done in survival

Wait, I'm curious, I've seen someone here saying that Fallout 4 has a better story than 76... is 76's story really that bad? From what I've seen, it seemed a solid exercise in worldbuilding, if a bit harmstrung by the decision to not have any human NPC alive on the map and insert as many references to past games and factions as possible.

Fallout 4's story is dogshit and the stories told in 76 are much better and more emotionally impactful than SHAUN but people are committed to the bit
