Sydin posted:Really it's better to say we're running out of cheap helium. You can extract it from the atmosphere just fine, the process as it exists right now though is just incredibly expensive and energy intensive. It's a significant portion of a lot of natural gas deposits. Separating it out is easy, there just hasn't been any infrastructure for it. The US selling off its reserves has depressed the market. When it's worth their while, there will be plenty available.

Apparently the crime lab was pissing through helium until they realized that if you keep the machine on standby with the lines charged for a year without using it you'll lose a bunch of gas.

I did the math wrong because I'm bad at math. It was more like 40,000 liters, minimum. We got 2 525 liter dewars dropped off every week.

HelloIAmYourHeart posted:Is THAT what happened to YouTube Link Title? I started using a different extension called YouTube Peek but I don't like it as much and it only works half the time anyway. Apparently YouTube contacted the developer and said they needed to do an API audit (because the extension obviously was hitting the API pretty hard from a lot of places). The developer basically said he didn't have time or energy to deal with that and stopped developing the project - he open sourced it, or rather I think it was already open source but he said anyone who wants to take it over and deal with YouTube, feel free, but yeah that's why it got removed from the Chrome webstore and eventually stopped working if you had it installed (I think YouTube blocked the API key). And presumably no one wants to deal with YouTube's requirements, whatever they are. Really annoying because it's one of those things you don't realize how useful it is until it's gone. There are some ViolentMonkey scripts that supposedly do the same thing but I haven't had much luck with any of them.

Never heard of it before, but yea that sounds really useful. Funny how the world is, people are so saturated with rich-content media that there's a popular movement to pare things back to minimal HTML. y2k users would be horrified at us lol I'm not sure how the script would/should cause any additional hits to youtube compared to a full video link, however? Shrug.

And presumably no one wants to deal with YouTube's requirements, whatever they are. You can generate your own API key for YouTube and insert it into the script and it still works perfectly. It's simple to do, but most people aren't willing to take the few minutes of effort it requires. EDIT: Okay, found the link to get your own API and everything else you need to do to get it working Also, if you comment out the nine or so lines in the script which start with "embed:function", it will mesh perfectly with the forums software.
