Some punk bands from my youth, (early 90s), and geographic region, (Australia) that haven't been mentioned yet: Frenzal Rhomb - A lot of fun to see live, and they picked a fight with Jackie O and Kyle Sandilands. WHich is always cool. BodyJar - Not as hardcore as any of the others mentioned, but I liked them. The Meanies - A little earlier than my time as a punk teen, but still a fun band. A little like the Ramones insomuch as they learned 3 chords, played them fast, and stopped at that. Nancy Vandal - Disregarding TISM, (who are most certainly not "punk", and about whom there was a rumour going around my school that our year 10 maths teacher was the bassist), my favourite band of all time. A heap of fun to see live, they have never taken themselves too seriously, always rocked hard, and have silly album names to boot. I got my arse signed by the horn section of this band once, and on a separate occasion talked with the trombonist for 20 odd minutes about David Lee Roth, Chevey Chase movies, and cocaine. Coz I am cool like that.

Listen, I know there have been garage rock bands playing 'proto-punk' since 1937 or whatever (and what about the Ramones?? etc), but to me the first proper punk was made by British working-class kids who picked up random instruments and proceeded to play them horribly, after seeing the Sex Pistols live. Boots, mohawks and/or braces. I know, I despise Brits as much as the next guy, but it has to be said. You have forced my hand, I will now post some classic British punk and Oi! generally from 1977-83 (the UK Subs and the Violators on this page were a good start). Ive always thought Sham 69 was a better example of early UK punk than the Sex Pistols. I get that the Sex Pistols came first, but they were basically the worlds worst boy band. They didnt really have much to say other than the occasional shock song like God Save The Queen and were better known for their antics during interviews than anything. Sham 69 actually had something to say and said it, they also made music that was actually pretty good.

I respect the Sex Pistols in the sense that they kickstarted punk as a subculture, but yeah, on their own merits they're basically a manufactured boy band. poo poo Vicious also couldn't play the bass, and I'm pretty sure he mistreated his girlfriend whether or not he actually killed her.

They also did some really good songs that showed off their pub rock roots like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP3tkqx0U5M Its a shame how so much of Oi music got coopted by Neo Nazis despite pretty much every band involved in the genre making it clear they wanted nothing at all to do with that poo poo. It makes the genre hard to talk about with people who arent particularly familiar with it. Just another example of why fascism sucks.

Musically, I don't care, I'll continue to listen to any good skinhead band that isn't made up of Nazis or otherwise too far to the right. In terms of aesthetics, yeah...it sounds really stupid, but I'll avoid putting on my boots just after I've had a haircut (I always ask the barber to get it as short as possible). I'm too much of a pussy to go for the skinhead look in public. I always get angry when I think about that. The skinhead subculture ultimately comes from Jamaica, gently caress you, it's not for Nazis.
