Elviscat posted:It's a pretty common analogy structure, you take someone who's widely acknowledged to be the best at something in their era (e.g. Michael Jordan at 1990's American basketball, Admiral Horatio Nelson at early 1800's naval warfare) and then you apply it to something you're good, or possibly the best, at, but outside the original analogy's subject's area of expertise (e.g. I'm the Admiral Horatio Nelson of posting stupid poo poo in PYF). What the gently caress?

I'm interpreting that as him saying he posts a lot of stupid poo poo in PYF about being Admiral Horatio Nelson.

It's an Indian English phrase, and it's starting to creep into wider use because of how much our tech industry interfaces with their's. I manage two Indian teams and all of our support is based there and it's an extremely common phrase along with several other Indianisms that sound weird to our ears.

I'm a software developer and I work both with Indians living in the US and with a separate team based in India and Indian English definitely has its unique phrases. The one that trips me up the most is they will usually say "I have doubts" instead of "I have questions".

Apparently it was a very common British phrase, I don't know why it never made it to America and then fell out of use in the UK while still being used in India.
