Seriously how many times do we complain about someone getting that wrong when the right move is obvious, good for her, a W is a W.

Game's not over until FJ ends. A W is a W. She wagered right for the position she was in and it paid off.

In case anyone cared, Ken steamrolled the contestants on The Chase so the brain trust producing the game decides to offer a pity prize to the team if they win the final round. The prize was $250K Maybe it's me but I wanted the offer to be embarrassing low like a grand. Your team should not be offered a potential six figure win after getting spanked on national TV.

The Chase mostly blows. Which sucks because it’s a trivia show and I really want to like it. But it is just awkwardly hand jobbing “the Chasers” the whole time, not asking near enough trivia questions, and the questions they have are harder than jeopardy questions because of how they are worded (not many clues within the question). The questions being harder would be fine if it was an even playing field, but you’re putting people who are likely on their first game show versus Jennings, Rutter, etc, and they just have so much more experience of course they’re gonna run the scoreboard. James' thing was very little that hadn't been done before: -category hopping from the bottom of the board -hunting daily doubles -making large bets on those daily doubles (he was indeed more aggressive here than other contestants who have tried the first two things) The difference is that James was good enough to actually know the answers to the big-money clues almost all the time, and fast enough on the buzzer to take advantage of that. We've seen other contestants since James try to play like him, and nobody's done as well because he is better at trivia and buzzing than they are. They're also largely not gutsy enough to go all-in on nearly every DD.

I said very little, not nothing! The bets were the major differentiator. But they'd mean nothing if he didn't actually know the answers. We've seen people since then try to bet big, and then crash and burn.

If they get a second season, they need to do a top to bottom renovation. Everything just seems forced into a certain situation in order to hit specfic beats. It's a game show, not a prime time soap opera.

I'm not saying she didn't deserve it, and a win's a win, but it was more accurately described as she was the one who just survived a brutal game that zeroed out the other contestants. I don't think she had a great game, but her wagering was correct and got her the win. Given the number of incorrect responses and triple stumpers, that was a game you just endured rather than played.

They're casting season 2 now so i think we're in for more. I have a few gripes but think it's... fine... otherwise. it's been on in the UK since 2009 and it works fine there, but the ABC version does some stuff uniquely wrong. 1) Host reads too slow! This is also a critique of the overall show pace, which is glacial. She also slows down at the weirdest (and occasionally suspicious!) times. The show's at its best when the reader and contestant/chaser are totally locked in the same rhythm and they just fly through the questions. The UK host (Bradley Walsh) and Brooke Burns on GSN were incredibly good at this. If you're going to try to elevate these chasers as Fast Trivia Gods or whatever, the show needs to be set up in a way that lets them flex. 2) It's too much money. $25k a pop on the cash builder makes things life-changing incredibly quickly and then you just kind of feel bad when they get caught. Related- the other offers are too high and/or too low and nobody ever picks them. Let them play for 500k, who cares, it's ABC's money. 3) The two sets of questions at the end often have different difficulty levels. Like, (spoiler for last night: Brad already had his hands full with three very strong players and then his final chase set was... impossible????) 4) I don't care about the jeopardy goat fraternity or whatever and they're all so awkward (and occasionally funny, but it doesn't carry the show). Also, it's on too late! I'm tired at 9 pm, okay???

I've been enjoying the Chase for what it is, but I agree with most of the criticisms. It would be much better if it was a half-hour show without all of the filler.Spokes posted:Related- the other offers are too high and/or too low and nobody ever picks them. My thought to make it a little more interesting is to give a guaranteed cash prize of something like $50K-$100K if you choose the riskiest offer and beat the chaser, regardless of what happens in the final.

Honestly, just take a look at how the original british show handles it's pacing and use that. Hell, go with the games on ABC's lineup and do two games in the hour for slightly lower stakes if you have to. It's called The Chase not A Leisurely Stroll Through the World of Trivia Against The In-House Jeopardy Champs. Fuckin run, for gently caress's sake. EDIT: gently caress, switch back to 4-member teams and that'd fix a lot of pacing issues. If you worry more about giving away prime-time cash than how the show feels to watch, you've hosed up. Yeah, I totally agree with all of this. And as a result of everyone always going for the middle offer, there's almost always three contestants at the end and they win a lot more often than they do on the UK or GSN versions. Which ok, it's cool that people are winning money and all, but it takes away from the allure of ~*~The Chasers~*~ when they're getting beaten 50% of the time. Also, the whole set seems to be designed to make Ken/Brad/James look as tiny and unimposing as possible. When you watch the GSN one the Beast looks intimidating. And I know neither one of those three guys are 6'7" and like 300 pounds, and nothing's going to change that, but the set seems to have been built to purposely make them look smaller. Which just... why? But whatever, I keep recording it and fast-forwarding through the 50 minutes of filler and anytime James says anything for the trivia questions because why not.

Can they make a new rule where if a contestant hits a Daily Double and goes all “oh I’ve been waiting all my life to say this, I’d like to make this a true Daily Double” when they have like $300 that they automatically lose it?
