We have several neighbors that do weekly shooting and I recently found out one neighbor is a vintage and specialized firearm dealer.

It is. It's a breathtaking 4WD skateboard with 250 miles of range. I remain unconvinced about the nav unit though, which has been a bit fragile.

I was able to take most of summer off, so I spent quite a bit of it living in a van in Scotland, camping out in forests and by lochs.

Rode my bike almost every day. It was fantastic for my mental health as i'd been straddling the edge of burnout at work since the whole COVID thing made things a bit busy.

It was a privilege to be able to take that much time out, but the reason I had that much holiday allocation built up was that work was so toxic that i'd not taken a break in several years... cause, meet effect.

It's also cheaper than the wood alone costs to make something equivalent yourself. If you just want a generic bookcase or nightstand or something, it's by far the best way to go. Save your own skills for something unique and nice.

Same, and my girlfriend and I recently spent a lot of effort to restore a nice dining table she found second hand. Good chunky solid hardwood.

But the time and effort spent was not insignificant, plus the cost of materials could have bought a decent table from Ikea.

And Ikea's cuts and dimensions are just absolutely spot on and straight. They put a lot of effort into improving their production efficiency and reduce wastage, less waste = more profit.

I haven't had the opportunity. Both ranges in town were closed for months and the new indoor one is members only and not worth the expense. Hell all the ranges are super CHUD adjacent so I'd prefer to avoid them at all times. I'll find time to hit the farm to shoot but that property is owned by the family of my BIL who's brother just died so I'm not gonna push him to go shoot things.

I'm far less worried than I was a year ago. We moved and poo poo's not going crazy like during the protests last year.

.22 is so much fun. I spent a long time only shooting bigger calibers but right before pandemic I modded this basic-rear end Buckmark into a thing, bought a case of 5k rounds and had a blast shooting through the entire ammo shortage for the equivalent of about $60 of ammo. Two of my friends shot it, and immediately went out and bought their own :v: Just crazy fun and an excellent way to introduce rookies to the sport as it's completely unintimidating to shoot, and makes you feel like you're an incredible shot.

I’m considering buying a crate of 8mm Mauser even though I only have one rifle in that caliber. It’s military surplus and comes in spam cans inside a wooden crate, but at $0.80 per round I’m hesitating a bit. I know 8mm isn’t exactly common or heavily produced though, and 760 rounds would likely last nearly a decade.

Here’s the Mauser currently sporting a synthetic stock. The original sporterized one is going out for crack repairs at some point but I wanted to be able to continue shooting it.

I've shot all sorts of poo poo, but I only own two actual firearms - a 20ga pump shotty, and a Springfield XD-9 short barrel.
My dad is a hunter from before I was born, so I've got plenty of experience around guns, hunting and target, and he has a bunch igf I want to mess around. He's even done a little gunsmithing to customize his rifles for hunting. Him and my little bro are the enthusiasts (and aboth actually hunt.) I like them as machines, and because they go bang and look cool, but I don't have the patience for hunting, and only feel a little need to "protect myself". I don't have a CCFL (or, here in Texas, just a carry license, period) but kind of want to just for a little additional training, and to have it. Also, guns are kind of expensive, and I have a lot of hobbies.
Personally, I feel like the biggest argument to own a firearm is that the right wing chuds have them.

That's pretty neat. Looks like the Browning equivalent of the Ruger Mark II (they're up to the Mark IV, now) I learned to shoot with. I've been meaning to get something like that for my wife. My XD-9 is a little big for her, and, as you say, .22 is great to learn with and use.

Considering so many people use sound bars and what have you because TVs sound SO loving BAD on their own, why even bother putting speakers in? Why bother loading it with smart crap when virtually everyone is plugging some other piece of tech in anyway? Save some money on manufacturing it and developing it and just give the consumer the option to buy high grade panels with barely more than the scaling kit in the case.

As an aside I had my attention drawn to some 70s electronics earlier too and it made me sad that virtually all of the stuff you can buy these days is just so dull looking. I'm not asking for a 70s space man helmet TV but perhaps a dash of colour?
