A major Australian newspaper has an article today where a former Binance guy is pushing for pension (‘super’) funds to invest in Crypto, that famously stable asset that will still exist when I come to retire. https://twitter.com/swearyanthony/status/1447191294384607237

Actually, can I have a "no loving cryptocurrency" clause I can request a mutual fund to provide before investing?

Fairly certain pensions are the most regulated funds when it comes to what they can invest in. Crypto isn't ever going to be on the menu.

Luckily, Australia's government is too Luddite to even improve the internet without deliberately loving it up every step of the way, I doubt they're even smart enough to be dumb enough to fall for crypto.

I imagine most of those we followed in the SA threads either lost their holdings in hacks/scams, or sold them when Bitcoin was a few hundred dollars, but while schadenfreude is fun it would be nice to know that just one of them held onto some coins and managed to finance the music festival or Tailspin cinema of their dreams.

If I am being honest, considering that I did try mining back in March 2010 when barely anyone else was doing it, if I had ended up with any I would have almost certainly sold them once the price hit enough for me to buy a take out meal. That would have felt like enough of a success at the time to warrant it. I dont see that there is any chance that I would have ever kept them until the price is what it is now. Not a chance at all.

IIRC a big part of why there's all these exchanges which the owners keep running off with is because it seems like a massive pain in the rear end to actually do any Bitcoin transactions without having an outside middleman, needing dedicated hardware just to run the blockchain, even if you aren't actively mining.

If you bought bitcoin when it was one euro, you'd sell a good portion when it reached 5, much less when it kept rising, because you can't predict the future. It's rationally wise to sell if something rises as ridiculously as bitcoin did, lamenting that it kept growing and you sold ignores that you couldn't predict said growth and how you'd probably lose those coins in one of the million security wipeouts that occured so far.

I don’t remember a name or episode #, but it’s probably Google-able. Tosh was amazed and skeptical at the same time which is one of the reasons I love watching him around “regular” people. He’s not blatantly insulting or a fanboi and watching him with the BTC kid was a good, funny bit.
