And Sundays. It's like NPR (at least in my area) goes into full parody mode for what conservatives *think* NPR is all the time - obnoxious, self-satisfied upper-crust liberal bullshit. "The Splendid Table," "On Being," "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me," and "Prairie Home Companion."

I would rather listen to an hour of Rush Limbaugh or Mark Levin than ten minutes of Garrison Keillor's poo poo. Or Lynne Rosetto-Casper smacking her lips and going on and on about French wines and roasted beet reductions.

And yeah, the "jokes" on WWDTM are the worst.

Thank you for posting this - I couldn't agree more. Most of NPR's non-news programming makes me feel embarrassed to be a white, middle class person working an office job.

See the thing is, the movies he may have been in lately are "blah", but I don't think that discredits his performances at all. Like Tom Cruise, even if you hate Nic Cage, I would argue that I haven't ever seen either of them phone in a performance. No matter how lovely the role, they always act their asses off, and this holds especially true to Cage.

If Bill is making you angry, then he's doing his job correctly.

There's an attorney in Houston (or at least was) who all the other attorneys use and his entire specialty is getting people off of DUIs. Like that is 100% of his caseload and apparently he's very good. I asked him once what basic advice he gives to clients who get pulled over when they think they're intoxicated. He said, "Do absolutely nothing. Be courteous and friendly, but don't answer any questions, don't blow, don't take tests - nothing. Then call me." It sounds like what any criminal attorney would say, probably, so it kinda makes sense.

I will try to take a picture next time I pass it, but on Washington where there are tons of bars now there's a giant billboard near Shepherd/TC Jester that has like "713-DONT-BLOW" and the name of the attorney on it.

True, the same doctor who fixed my thumb after my dog bit it causing it to split down the middle to the knuckle also does tons of boob jobs, and did a truly amazing job on my thumb. I asked him what percentage of his patients are there for elective surgery and he said at least 70, but he said he loves working on hands more than anything and plastic surgeons have medical bills to pay.

it's a holdover from like a century ago when machines were big and tough and dangerous and manly and automobiles were just the civilized version of farming or mining or construction equipment. it's held over because car work is tedious and boring unless you're a car nerd but it also serves as a marker for practical masculinity so if you're insecure about your manhood you can just learn a thing or two about cars and buttress your self esteem in a basic and simple way

you see the reverse of this in cooking, i bet some women feel more feminine for being able to bake cookies and cakes or whatever when really just being able to slap together dinner from raw ingredients should be a basic human skill. no boy should move out of their parents place without being able to cook at minimum five different healthy meals same as every girl who drives should know how to change a flat, change oil, change bulbs, diagnose simple problems, etc.

i went an embarassingly long time being completely helpless in the kitchen but it's like not hard at all to put together baked chicken and a couple vegetable sides. like if american public education weren't so dismal we absolutely should teach it in high school

This but sewing and budgeting.

I think women could definitely play in the MLB as there is almost no physical contact (player to player), and technique is almost everything huge part of it - the hitting leader last year is the shortest active player (Jose Altuve, a stocky 5'5"). I think one of the issues is that women usually grow up playing softball mostly, which is similar, but not really the same.

Why the PGA isn't fully integrated is beyond me. I think it's because ultimately a sport that is usually completely dominated by white males would be decimated by the sheer golfing power that resides in Korean women.
