I finished watching season 1 of 24 last night, and it...kind of felt boring? I didn't really care at all about what happened with Jack's wife, and everyone felt like they had exactly two emotions: :geno: and :qq:. And then Jack's third emotion, :tizzy:.

Should I bother watching more if the first season didn't really grab me?

Going to 11 is what differentiates 24 from all the boring action-adventure shows that followed. 24 isn't about a government agent trying to save the day, its about a violent sociopath being given carte blanche to maim, torture and kill anyone and everyone in pursuit of slightly more dangerous sociopaths. The bloody swaths of destruction Jack cuts across downtown LA/New York/London are second to none. Have the Agents of SHIELD ever murdered a person's family to force a confession from a witness? Has Carrie Matheson ever tortured an injured woman while evading unmanned aerial drone strikes in a Ford Focus? Did Arrow from the CW show Arrow ever strangle his best friend because she tried to stop him from assassinating a foreign head of state?

Didn't think so :colbert:

Jack Bauer is the only person who has done those things because he is the only true American badass on television. And that's why we love him.

There is this dude from The Shield called Vic Mackie and he makes Jack Bauer look like a pussy.

I've got to say, the Bridge continues its history of having the most graphic depictions of cunnilingus on basic cable in the premiere. Though when who is doing it is the brother of the guy who murdered your sister you wonder what's going through Sonya's head.

Well - very start of the show awakens visibly shaken from an anxiety dream and proceeds to 'regain control' by having sex w/ his wife, who awakens upset and disturbed but doesn't audibly object. Not a defense but a summation of the beginning. The couple are in therapy and clearly this is a good reason to be in therapy, but it isn't addressed right away.

Man, I love Schreiber, but he's so wasted in that role. The problem is that he's such a good actor that he's still drat good in it, it's just a completed uninteresting show.

First season has it's problems if you come for the possible Entourage-lite drama and can't get into the molestation story of the brothers but once Jon Voight & James Woods meet face to face it becomes electric.

Second season has definitely been more compelling and less navel gazing.

DirectTv's Rogue got a 20 episode renewal [they're going to split them into 2 seasons].

It's great news because for all the attention other summer fare receives, this one really has grown into a stronger show that feels like its earning its fanbase. Feel free to check out what you're missing. I keep hoping it gets it's own thread every season but no such luck.

Anyone know why Chicago Code was cancelled? It is a great programme so far.

Honestly, compared to other ventures Shawn Ryan was involved in - especially The Shield & Terriers - it was incredibly weak-sauce. One of my biggest gripes about The Chicago Code is it spent more time TELLING us how Chicago was corrupt systemically instead of SHOWING us. Chicago could have easily been Toronto or St. Louis after you strip away some of the back story. Beyond that, watching cop cars fishtail during chases is the closest thing the show came to a signature style.

Black-ish was actually decent and everything after the ceremony is handled. It comes across like you stopped watching at the moment before everybody - the wife, the dad, the kids - called Anderson out on his overreaction. If that's so, no wonder you hated it. Basically if you look at the episode as a form of cultural mid-life crisis, everything isn't that shrill and it doesn't become as one note as it initially seems. Anderson just has professional stuff going on and he's begun to over think everything in his personal life [hi jinx ensure].
