Well, if you subscribe to reason and science, then yes.

As far as I can tell, they're basically training machine learning algorithms on huge piles of irrelevant, essentially random data, and then using the result to classify other random, irrelevant data as if it has some sort of predictive power. It's the technological equivalent of trying to read bird entrails, and it's just as useless.
I read a joke once, "the first thing I do with a stack of applications/resumes is throw half of them in the trash. I don't want anyone unlucky working here"

It's a funny joke, but honestly it is also less racist and more effective (or equally as ineffective) as anything any tech company has ever come up with regarding hiring.

How does that work? It's my understanding none of these companies are profitable, they're just trying to outlast each other. Why would you buy out a competitor? So you can lose more money faster?

Why is NetFlix even in that top tier, tf do they do except make the interface worse and make it autoplay when you're browsing.

It seriously cannot take that many coders to just digitise and upload movies.

If you already have/need a runway, and you have the money for an airplane, you can certainly get something that cruises faster than 170km/h with all the compromises of also having to be a car, and then also buy or rent a car. The plane will be much better at flying, and the car will be much better at driving.

It's a nifty idea in terms of "wow, we can do this," but it ends up being pretty impractical.

LBJ had an aquatic car and would terrify White House guests by pretending to lose control and driving into the Potomac. If we can get one of these to Biden and he starts driving off cliffs with foreign dignitaries in the passenger seat, I see this as an absolute win.

Looking at you, Arnold and Stallone.
I've been think about writing a story about this, actors should be freaking the gently caress out because once deepfakes are good enough, there will be no need for new actors. We can just have boomer faves like 40 year old Harrison Ford and Warren Beatty starring in everything forever and paying a $250 day rate to a guy in a ping-pong ball suit to do the actual work.

Or worse, synthesized amalgams of the top ten hunks or leading ladies.

I think you're high if you believe people will want to see simulated actors on a wide scale. I see it maybe becoming a thing for cameos, but probably not for entire films.

I had a Captain America toothbrush in 1985 that already did this with the press of a button, there is no need to have a computer as powerful as the one I had in my living room in 1995 inside of a toothbrush.
