I wonder if Big Trouble in Little China is a new transfer. The Fox one is pretty alright already if I remember correctly but I may be viewing it through 2009 goggles.

I bought it the other day and it still looks drat good imo. Kinda feel dumb since this new one is coming out. May have to sell/give away my current one if it's got a nicer transfer

So I finally got a 4k TV and decided it was time to start a bit of a Blu-Ray collection instead of stealing everything. Despite owning a PS4, I've yet to watch a BluRay at home, but now that I've got a 4k TV I went ahead and purchased a UHD player as well.

Imagine my sadness when I realised that region locking is still a thing in 2019.
But then I was happy to see that UHD is not region locked!
But then I was sad when I read that special features on UHD discs might not be 4k and won't play if not in my region.
Then I got more sad when I realised how few 4k movies there are.

I didn't want to go nuts with a collection like I did DVD but thought I'd get the filmographies of the likes of Nolan, Tarantino, Anderson, Coen's etc. I was stoked to see the first title I searched for (Royal Tenenbaums) got the Criterion treatment. Then I realised all Criterion stuff is Region A. Resigned myself that I'd just have to get a normal Blu-Ray only to discover that it doesn't appear to be on Blu Ray at all in Australia.

gently caress this poo poo. No wonder people pirate.

I don't have a 4k set up yet but I'm scared of buying a film and then there being a 4k release sometime down the line.

I love one. I haven't seen it in a while so my nostalgia might be glossing over any problematic moments. But it's a good parody of The Manchurian Candidate with some fantastic cameos.

2 was transphobic as all hell. I saw it for free at a screening maybe 6 months before it came out. Awful, pointless sequel.

I'm a sucker for really dumb comedies that manage to hone in their dumbess. Zoolander has aged well imo but it's been a few years since I've seen it. Still I couldn't pass up on the BLUESTEEL edition. I'm now eagerly awaiting the Clifford br release (probably never gonna happen).

I know someone who goes to Best Buy/chain stores and just buys whatever new movies are out regardless of what they are. And of course none of those are boutique label stuff. It's all just the mediocre kind of crap you'd see in the front display at Best Buy. In fcat he has awful taste in movies and calls me a hipster because I "don't like stuff that's popular".

I don't know anyone like that myself but I see a lot of posters like that on the bluray forums. Guys that just grab every new release as it comes it. It's some crazy person behavior.

Oh hell yes, I've been wanting to pick that up for so long but the current one is like $50, will be open-palm slapping that into my cart if they do a US release.

At some point I should probably just invest in a region-free player, there are so many movies I want that I could get the UK release of at like 50-75% off for some reason.

I ended up buying and ripping a europen copy. the 40-50 dollar US release is a tad too pricey for me. As much as I love the film. I do need to mod my PS3 to remove the region locks eventually.

I like steels but I'll only really go for em if they're not much more than the regular edition or if the art's real neat. They're real useful if a film you like gets a better/4k edition since you can reuse the case.
