Again, my apologies for taking too long to make the seasonal thread. There's no excuse for that, other than me being lazy and not prioritizing this thread. Besides that though, I changed the formatting of the OP a bit, so that way it is now simply "Full Length" and "Shorts". I also added a lot of the Donghua (Chinese Animations) into these categories, even though most of them are sparse with information currently. Does it look okay, or was it better to keep them separate from the other Anime offerings? Before they were usually lumped into the OVA/ONA section, but is it better to keep it separate, put it back there, or lump them into a new section, "Donghua" ?

Getter Robo Arc gives me big low budget 2000s anime vibes where it's fun through sheer joy and spirit despite the bad off model animation. The cgi is actually pretty good surprisingly and I wouldn't trust the 2021 anime industry to capture late-era Ken Ishikawa art anyway

Ore, Tsushima is a short, it's like 2 minutes long. I enjoyed the first ep of Uramichi Oniisan, I was afraid it was going to be a really lackluster adaption but it hit the mood of the manga fairly well. A few of the jokes I liked in the manga were changed or left out but for the most part it's pretty close to the original. I'm looking forward to getting to hear the weird songs they do for the show actually being sung. The other thing I've watched so far is the first ep of Re-Main and it didn't really grab me. I liked pretty much everything with his family, the show seems to be taking their trauma seriously and I liked how his little sister wasn't treated like an annoying brat (both by the show and by the MC) despite their squabbling. The underclassman kid is intensely annoying and it was a challenge to not to stop watching immediately during the scenes where he shows up. also I was not a fan of the cartoonish reaction to the MC seeing a pretty girl or the forced way they meet at the end. It hasn't even gotten into any of the sports stuff or introduced the team so I hate to drop it without giving that stuff a chance but the first episode didn't really sell me on it. I think having the donghua shows mixed in is fine, also I like the new organization -- knowing what's full length and what's a short is more useful than whether or not it's a tv broadcast or ona.

God I hope the 5 seconds anime is a decent adaptation. The plot summaries all skirt around saying what the protagonist's power ends up being, which is imo a big mistake because it's honestly the biggest selling point: he gains the superpower of 'whatever the other person thinks it is', so in combat he has to be able to sufficiently convince whoever he's fighting that he can do something for him to be able to do it, while also preventing people from either discovering what his power ACTUALLY is/how it works or accidentally crossing wires somewhere, since the moment they think he can't do something he can't (spoiled for those who want to wait until the anime shows what his power is)

isekai is also not as new a genre as most people think, the earliest example off the dome would be escaflowne and im sure theres stuff predating that. garzey's wing? lmao. inuyasha is more a time travel thing but is probably the first example of a cultural juggernaut in the isekai vein imo im gonna watch kanojo kanojo and hope that it ends up by the finale having a nice depiction of polyamory. not a ton of examples of that in anime, or even general culture across the globe. it will fail, but hey, why not live in hope.

Even if there's a lot more non-isekai than there was non-mecha anime, the sheer numbers for the generic stuff makes it feel more dominant. Anyway, not real excited for anything this season. If it turns out there's another Odd Taxi style sleeper, I'll try to catch up, but for now, I'm probably going to chip away at my backlog. (Also, Dunbine is older than Escaflone.)
