Bleeping words is one of the most grating and hateful things in a comic, especially when there is never, ever a reason to do it. The angst of a censored word is just so childish. I first read Prickly City a few years ago and thought it was a cute homage to Calvin & Hobbes, now it is only repugnant and lazy. Is spending two months drawing strips that convey, "I hate Hilary Clinton" sufficient to cancel syndication for a strip? It was really bad when the Dixie Chicks were lambasted for making an anti-war statement, to have these jackasses paid for this is too much. For someone to say that "politician X is bad because Y" is okay, to say "I hate politician X because I hate her" is not acceptable, it's best left to the editorial page where any jackass is put on display for their idiocy and bad opinions.

Yeah, also, isn't the coyote character supposed to be a childlike useful idiot of the Democrats? I only have glancing knowledge of Prickly City via this thread, but it seems out of character.

Yeah, when the word is obviously "loving" it's really dull humor. This actually made me think of C&H, handling that in a much funnier way:

That movie looks pretty good. They even interviewed Kate Beaton, although they also included the Penny Arcade guys.

Also, that most recent Allie about Alex Sink is the first state politics cartoon I've seen from him. Just where is he based? Part of the reason that he's so tone-deaf and stupid might be that he doesn't pay any attention to local politics.

Penny Arcade is one of, if not the most successful webcomics of all time. Regardless of what you think of the guys (they're horrible) they're definitely worth interviewing for a documentary about cartoonists.

If they want to get a good look at the move from newspaper comics to online comics, they'd definitely want to. Penny Arcade was very influential in the early development of webcomics and the idea that they could actually be profitable.

He's based out of Illinois, but yeah I don't think he does much local stuff. And let's be honest, the only reason he picked up that Alex Sink thing is almost certainly because one of the right-wing blogs he reads posted it as more evidence that Democrats are the real racists.

Bloom County had censored words which fit since you knew the types of characters involved were saying some raw stuff but there's no way that would get past an editor. Additionally Berke Breathed would get meta about it a lot and use comic conventions like sound effects, sight gags, and censored curse words as 4th wall breaking jokes.

Coming from TFR, my favorite part of that Tom Tomorrow is that unlike most politoons "I dunno some kinda wood thing with a rectangle sticking out the bottom" he actually tried to draw specific guns and properly. I think he might have even looked at some pictures of actual guns prior to trying to draw one, wow!

I know, I know, it seem like a silly thing to fuss over but this is like the assholes that draw cars that resemble no production model automobile in the entirety of automotive history and how loving lazy that is when there's ample pictures of cars to study. You might even own a car yourself you could model the drawing on, wow!

More specifically and less Tumblrily than this: Tycho is good at talking to people, but Gabe had problems with bullies growing up that have given him a pretty severe persecution complex and an unusually broad definition of "bully" (anyone who antagonizes him in any way for any reason). It makes him act really entitled and lash out like a vindictive manchild when he's clearly in the wrong. People on Something Awful, a website for showcasing the flaws of people who misbehave on the Internet, have fixated on this because it's basically our job.
