Knowing the rest of the Hellcat, "neutered" valet mode is probably still north of 400 horsepower, fully disables the traction control and somehow makes the exhaust even louder. While the valet drives it the ECU identifies and calls out nearby sports cars (through the stereo, in the voice of Ralph Gilles) and gives odds on beating them in a drag race, followed by profane encouragement.

(and there is nothing wrong with that) Supposedly at WOT the thing can drain it's fuel tank in 13 minutes or so. I don't see why you couldn't use it as a DD, though lets be honest, as a DD there's no practical reason to own one over an R/T Challenger (if you want a V8 Challenger), or even a V6 Challenger if you just want a Challenger. It's purely a brash, ostentatious, excessive and bonkers car. I'm curious what the Hellcat Charger will be like. Photos popped up recently of the SRT Charger mule with different body work from the new 2015 model. Since the Charger and Challenger share the same foundation, and up to this point the same engines, there's no reason they couldn't make a Hellcat version. Still bonkers but slightly more practical than the Challenger.

They might as well Hellcat up a Ram 1500 2WD Regular Cab and piss in Ford and Chevy/GMC's Cheerios because they don't have the crazy that has gotten into Mopar.

I thought that was to signify that the design was stuck in the 70s, and the transmission would have 7 gears left after you launch it.

Almost every single Hellcat will be wrapped around a telephone pole, leaving the 5 or so remaining ones worth well over $1,000,000 a piece. Just watch & see.

I know it's hard being a VW enthusiast, but you don't need to take it out on the FUTURE GOD'S CHARIOT dude. Mark Booth has been right on Miata.net every single time, he's probably a plant. I'm kind of excited for the new Mazda2 with the 1.5L timbo diesel. Currently the 2 makes 100hp/98ft-lbs, new one is going to be slightly larger, weigh about the same (2300lbs), and have 105hp and 185ft-lbs.

I'd be excited about the Miata if it had any balls to it for once. I still don't buy the idea you have to neuter a car's power to make it handle nice.

Also hearing poo poo about Aus not getting the diesel 2 because they want people to buy the diesel 3. Particularly this one: http://www.caradvice.com.au/293799/2015-mazda-2-review/ Just have to wait and see I guess.

I don't disagree, but poo poo gets expensive. I think the only other car on the list that could give the ND a run for its money in the MPG department is the Corvette and maybe BRZ. I think it's going to be in the mid to high 30s, and you can squeak out 28mpg out of the BRZ and Vette. You might not be the target demo. poo poo gets expensive when you start making one-off stuff. The motors that have been in the Miata have always been what's in the completely pedestrian cars, too. NA/NB: shares with Escorts, Kias, and Protégés NC: shares with Focus, 3, etc The BRZ technically shares the same motor as the new WRX and Forester and so does the Z4, but stuff like the LS6 and F series motor aren't found in your mom's beige box.

Yeah but it shouldn't have to be a choice between a 400hp 6.0 liter v8 and a 2.0 liter inline 4 that only puts out 200hp. A NC with a turbo MZR would have been money.

Yeah, but there were several (dumb) things at play. First was that nothing could be faster than the flagship: the RX-8. You know, the car that basically pushed Mazda into the red. Then the financial crisis and Ford leveraging it's stake in Mazda and whatnot, etc. I still think it's dumb that they didn't do it. The rotary is neat, but it's almost bankrupted Mazda twice in a row. The science fair project shouldn't require all of Mazda' slush fund. It's a shame, but it's the truth.

The real question isn't power but if they're going to make this RWD or FWD. A roadster with FWD just sounds all kinds of not-fun.

In a worst case where they add lots of heavy safety features and niceties, it's the same weight as the current one, but with a turbo. If they actually do what they say they've done and drop 200 lbs, you have a car significantly lighter than the Alfa 4c. http://blog.caranddriver.com/mazda-shows-chassis-for-next-gen-2016-miata-calls-it-a-table-of-contents-2014-new-york-auto-show/

The 2.3 Ecoboost is a new engine design, it's not an MZR. In fact Ford looks like it's going to ditch the MZR altogether. The 2015 Edge is going to debut the new 2.0 Ecoboost, the only thing it shares with the old 2.0EB is bore-center spacing.
