Unless it was severely beaten into people that they are checking to make sure people are generally safe and attentive, not whether they are adhering to inane minutiae. There are enough people out there who never advanced beyond what was required to pass their driving test as it is. The problem with regular testing is that it wouldn't be much different to doing a single test. No-one drives the way they do for the test. Both hands on the wheel unless changing gear, checking mirrors in order frequently, mirror-signal-maneoueoeoueouver, etc. Even the instructors tell you they're not teaching you how to drive, they're teaching you how to pass the test. When i did my test i drove in test-mode on the way there, did all that poo poo for the test and once i'd passed i hopped back in the car, one hand on the wheel, arm out the window, etc. Cakefool posted:"Drove like a proper oval office" would be the best way to fail your renewal though. Had a guy tailgating me on the way back from Canyon Lake today in the rightmost lane (US), to the point that I couldn't see his headlights. Sometimes I gradually slow down until these guys pass me, not tonight though, I just maintained speed since it was a busy stretch of highway. Truck in front of me kicks up a huge gator, must have been an entire tread. You don't try dodging these in a lifted jeep, you just hope it doesn't flap up and hit a brake line. Guy tailgating me immediately gets off my rear end.

Set age limits might be overkill, everyone loses their reactions/alertness at different rates. Some folks make it into their 90s and are sharper than anyone reading this thread. What you really need is kids who actually take care of their parents and get their license revoked when the time comes. Punish the children with fines for any damages their parents inflict and boom, the streets are safer! Also institute a mandatory public service phase before teenagers can get their permanent license. Force them to spend 6 months taxiing seniors to get groceries and suddenly the kids are much better drivers.

Most of you will get old. I am just saying when you pass the soylent green laws you will eventually be subject to them. (Not that you could ever overcome the fact that old people have nothing better to do then vote) That said the older I get the less I care about having a valid license or insurance or traffic ordinances. Just saying what are they going to do?

I don't disagree, I just think that if laws are going to be proposed, they should be tailored to the faculties of the individual rather than painting everyone who makes it to a specific age with the same brush. Some people might get their license yanked at 40. Some might be 18 years old and never allowed to have a license. Others might make it to 110 and pull 8 minute lap times on the Nurburgring. The rules should allow all of that.

This may be disrespectful, but funeral processions really have no place on the highway at the very least. Driving on 95 north just past Boston, a procession was taking up the center and right lane and no one seemed to want to pass them above one mile an hour. Also, processions running red lights on busy surface streets with no police escort seems suicidal.

I don't know if this is possible, but I want it in my will that my earthly remains are never to impede traffic. Drive the loving hearse at 20 over the limit if you like; my corpse will not care, because it is an object at that point and is thus incapable of feeling disrespected, but it upsets me in life to think that the final effect of my body on anyone else on this earth would be to cause a traffic delay. A mockery of everything I believe, really.

Speaking of BroTruck douchery. I work at a bar on the weekends (ya know, for h3lla sik mod money, y0), and we have this nice outdoor patio thing with some tables and couches that happens to be on the sidewalk next to the street. So this past Sunday there was a random car show, very eclectic grouping of vehicles and a few trucks. Show ends, and one of the BroTruckers decides to roll coal the length of our patio, while it is packed with patrons. I was about to run through the bar, out the side door, and grab this oval office at the stop sign down the street. BroTruck people are literally the loving worst.

Saw something sort of similar on my way into work this morning. Come up on an intersection, there's some SUV stopped in the middle of it. Confused me at first and then I noticed trying to turn left and get around the roadblock. My interpretation was the driver had realized they were running a red light after they'd crossed the stop line and stood on the brakes. Then just sat there as they freaked out and tried to decide what to do about it. To their credit, once they decided the way through was clear, they just drove through.

I saw a big accident today! There were a few cars stopped at a red light, I hear a bang and look up (I was walking, not driving), and I see a Mistubishi on its side skidding down the road. He clipped the corner of a stopped SUV, having made no attempt to slow down, it would seem, at such a speed that it tipped him onto his side. The driver did not speak English and there was no one around who did speak that language (I leave the determination of the language as an exercise for the reader, lest I be accused of racism), but from what I can tell he just wasn't paying attention and plowed straight into a stopped car. Unfortunately, he was alive and (apparently) well, so he'll probably get a new piece of poo poo SUV and continue to wreak havoc all over our streets. Luckily, he didn't injure anyone this time around, but who knows if we'll be so lucky next time -- if it'd had been an motorcycle instead of a Lexus, or if the incident had been one lane over and the car had skidded to a stop on the sidewalk instead of the curb lane, there would've been fatalities.

A lot of the recent migrants from africa speak fluent french, as it's the official language in a lot of their countries, but won't settle in quebec because they're super fuckin racist there. Not the casual alberta redneck racism, either. The "follow the black guy around the store at arms length" kind of racist. I talked BMWs with a guy from senegal the other day, and he said his family gives him a hard time because he only drives a BMW and not a mercedes. He was a brick layer in senegal and is doing house framing here, and says the buildings he built there cost half as much and will still be standing 100 years after the houses here fall down. He came here without a license, and instead of having to have a class 7 for a year, then go through the GDL for a year, he paid $800 for a service that got him a drivers license from rwanda, a country he never set foot in, 3 days of driver training on how to pass the test, and a test with a tester who he said didn't even pay attention to his driving. He said he was ok with it because he was trained in gran turismo, but says if he sees an older mercedes on the road he stays as far away as possible because it's probably one of his family.
