What determines when you get access to battleships? Is it a turn timer or is it some form of levelling system? I don't think Herp's ever mentioned it.

Capital ship slots and upgrades for escort ships are based on your overall level, which increases as you fight battles. You get a battleship at level 8.

Are you going to show off the other races? Even just for a skirmish or two, to see how they work. I love the aesthetics of this game, and the gameplay between factions looks really interesting.

I show off the Eldar in Chapter 1, Part 6 and the Orkz in Chapter 1, Part 7. Chaos are exceedingly similar to the Imperial fleet, Space Marines may as well be the Imperial fleet, and I've not yet even touched the Tau. I'll probably do a rundown of all of the fleets at their higher tiers and talk through hypothetical setups and how each fleet stacks up against eachother. The one point that looking at Chaos Light Cruisers would bring up is that they start with a carrier - the Hellbringer - along with the higher speed and long range accuracy making it the easiest fleet to play in the most boring manner possible.

I mentioned it and moused over the XP bar twice in the last video, it's a leveling system. Every even numbered rank is a class (up until you get to battleships), every odd numbered rank is a slot.

Going to repeat the question since this game's SA megathread is as dead as its multiplyer: how do set skills and orders to be on autocast by default at the start of every mission?
And while we're at it, any tips on how to spec your ships in the campaign?

in the shipyard theres some button to the left lower screen that allows you to get out all the skill buttons. you can set the autocast there for each ship. too lazy to go check where exactly.

Space Marines are a little different than the IN, but not in a way you could show off in a newly created fleet. The Marines don't have battlecruisers period, instead they get an extra battleship equivalent class vessel. They have a lot of ordinance launch bays in their fleet (including at light cruiser) but without spending an upgrade on them the only ordinance they can use is boarding craft, once upgraded they can deploy fighters. Marine ships are better armored than IN ships and faster, but they have fewer hit points and weaker shields. They have less weapon diversity than the IN, with only a single unique weapon of their own. The Bombardment cannon turret is kinda like the INs macro turrets but it fires slower, hits harder, and has 5 times the crit chance. With a fully upgraded master gunner then have like a 44% crit chance.

The other big difference is that space marine favors are one per fleet and upgrade with a special crew slot that the favor unlocks. For example, when the IN gives a ship mechanicus favor that ship gets one extra equip and upgrade slot, the forgemaster favor gives the ship that has it an extra slot for upgrades and skills per crew rank in forgemaster.

A bunch of the Mechanicus defected during the Heresy and subsequently. Given how rulebound the Mechanicus is complete freedom from rules can be very attractive to some of them.
The 'Dark Mechanicus' run their own forge worlds in/near the Eye. Often exploiting the... unique... properties of said worlds.

That ship of yours has a gigantic micro warp jump range, so you might want to take that ability instead of a bomb, considering just how slow it is.

The issue is that it is our biggest ship, and that means we're most likely to use it as the flagship. Flagships need to warp out in certain missions (data recovery, assassination) and MWJ shares a cooldown with that. Plus, how many times have I actually used the MWJ on His Divine Overcompensation? probably should be higher, i'm bad and afraid of micromanagement

Apologies to HerpicleOmicron for using their thread for this.

No apologies necessary, this looks cool and I wish I had the time and inclination to keep up with these sorts of play by post games. I lost track of the Strike Command/CMANO thread and then a Phoenix Command spinoff happened and then I gave up. I love these games and threads but the amount of effort everyone involved puts in, both OPs and posters, terrifies me.

:aaaaa: (actual spoilers for the Gothic War) Considering the formation of the Imperial-Eldar alliance being a thing I actually observed this happening on my first run. I see nothing from the devs explaining if this is linked or just lucky morale checks, but I do believe its a possibility.

Definitely. My first playthrough had all three bars at that position at around this point in the campaign, probably about a turn ahead come to think of it.

So, three things:
1. Eldar ships actually have the worst troop values in the game and you should always be using assault boats against them
2. Your first priority after that second mission should have been to shell out renown for priority repairs to get your battleship up and running immediately.
3. Tactical cogitators are your friend. At this point in the game you should really be spending more time in slow-mo and at least trying to micro a bit.

1- gently caress, really? I swore they had the highest but were bad at boarding. Eldar were last to be added to the base game and I played a ton of the beta, so they're the ones I'm least accustomed to.
2- Nah, I'll be honest, the Emperor battleship is not my favourite. I was going to go with the Retribution until I saw the name on my list. Also it was just one more fight.
3- My whole concept going into this was to show that micro isn't really necessary and you can pull off wins without relying on it. Lots of people struggle with the game, and partly I believe is that they try to do too much themselves instead of trusting the game. Tactical cogitators for me are a way to line up ramming actions, the best micromanagement.

That time when you had the Eldar battleship flanked by two of your ships and you mistimed both of their rams so it zipped between them and you basically ran into yourself like two soon-to-be-cut fifth-string cornerbacks being juked by Marcus Allen actually damaged one of my arteries.

In unrelated news, turns out the Retribution battleship can get hung up on mines. the detonation radius is smaller than the battleship.
