It's extremely likely to be, which is why I even brought it up.

There's enough never-trump decorum senators on the republican side to possibly lead to impeachment if the evidence of crimes is compelling enough.

You're talking about removal if you're talking about the Senate. Another thing that is never happening. You would need ~17 republican senators. Zero chance.

Also, I wonder if the investigation is going to have much of a public mindshare if it lasts for 2 1/2 more years.

Unless Trump's popularity within the Republican party absolutely collapses, no Republican politician is going to put his or her neck out and vote to impeach or convict. That would be signing your own political career's execution.

There is literally no crime Trump could be found out to have done that would result in impeachment unless it's a Dem House.

This is true. If they haven't even floated a possibility after all the bullshit going on that is straight out illegal, they won't for anything else. Why Dems aren't on the floor taking this poo poo to task at every chance, well, i know why, but they should still do it.

Trump has now officially been guilty of literally every "crime" he accused Hillary Clinton of in 2016. He has even done the made-up ones.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/05/21/trump-phone-security-risk-hackers-601903

quote:

‘Too inconvenient’: Trump goes rogue on phone security

The president has kept features at risk for hacking and resisted efforts by staff to inspect the phones he uses for tweeting.

President Donald Trump uses a White House cellphone that isn’t equipped with sophisticated security features designed to shield his communications, according to two senior administration officials — a departure from the practice of his predecessors that potentially exposes him to hacking or surveillance.

The president, who relies on cellphones to reach his friends and millions of Twitter followers, has rebuffed staff efforts to strengthen security around his phone use, according to the administration officials.

The president uses at least two iPhones, according to one of the officials. The phones — one capable only of making calls, the other equipped only with the Twitter app and preloaded with a handful of news sites — are issued by White House Information Technology and the White House Communications Agency, an office staffed by military personnel that oversees White House telecommunications.

While aides have urged the president to swap out the Twitter phone on a monthly basis, Trump has resisted their entreaties, telling them it was “too inconvenient,” the same administration official said.

The president has gone as long as five months without having the phone checked by security experts. It is unclear how often Trump’s call-capable phones, which are essentially used as burner phones, are swapped out.

Unless, like I'm saying, they realize that they won't be punished because a large segment of his base are cowardly blowhards like trump. They'll see trump punished, vow revenge, and accomplish that revenge by not voting for anyone. Meanwhile the vast swaths of "independents" who usually vote republican but are staying home because of trump (and, I admit, some "principled" republicans) will happily come back to the polls to vote republican again because trump was "never really one of us" and they won't have the big red "t" to shame them.

trump's scandals are creating the blue wave, there's no question at this point, the blue wave is only made bigger the more they dig in their heals about trump leading to maybe losing SotH, second in line to succession, at a time when both the president and vp might actually be going down. The only solution left might just be to put a party hardliner dummy in SotH, then impeach trump and pence because, if they don't, they risk even the safest of safe seats being in danger as the wave grows and more people are emboldened and embiggened.

Of course this is all long term thinking, at this point in time you're right, and no one has really shown a knack for long term thinking. republicans especially.

It's not nothing matters, it's reality. The mattering is that hopefully Trump being outed as a criminal will result in a popular push from the voters to defeat him and his party in 2020. However you can't look at the modern Republican party and see people that are willing to stand up to their insane base to do what's right for the country, especially when the right wing media has been selling this entire investigation as a witch hunt led by a secret cabal of traitors.

If the investigation results cause Trump's numbers to crater THEN the party might stand up to him but as long as he is popular with Republican voters they will not act.
