Honestly from the name of the episode I thought the entire situation was the 31st-century Kobayashi Maru. I legit thought when Burnham gets hit with the meteor, it was implying she died instantly and she was going to wake up back at Starfleet on their holodeck or whateverMikeJF posted:They should've done a thing in the opening credits where the line-drawing blueprint of Discovery is Discovery Classic, and then as it fills in it's Discovery Neo. I just rewatched that scene and I think the implication is that their Voyager will be testing that "Pathway Drive prototype" she mentions, not the new Spore Drive they're developing, and it seems like that's more a Warp Drive alternative than a "get anywhere instantaneously" method like the Spore Drive. I think it would be a nice follow-up to "ok we have Dilithium again but maybe we need to keep looking at alternatives y'know just in case"

While I enjoyed the episode mostly, it still feels like Disco took the grimdark accusations of the first season a little too much to heart, and swung to the other extreme. It very consciously takes time to show people smiling and extolling positive virtues, and it all comes off a bit like a corporate training video. Or a motivational poster come to life. It also keeps giving me weird Captain Planet vibes for some reason. It’s only gotten more pronounced since season two.

I think what makes "Galactic Threat #253“ more frustrating than usual is the big emphatic speech about "hey remember when the point of Starfleet was scientific exploration? Good times" right beforehand. Also anybody else think the station commander was an evolved Pakled?

I dug the new episode but I do still wish Disco could slow down a bit more and not have every season be super large stakes. I've liked the show the whole way through, but as we get further along it gets more and more silly. If these were long seasons with more room for bottle episodes it would probably be fine and more DS9-like, but the lack of that just leaves so little room for characterization. You saw it in TOS, you saw it in TNG, I think you saw it in DS9, in Enterprise. It just was avoided in Voyager by them being on the other side of the Galaxy. The new part is being a relic from the past with mutiny on their record and no actual captaining experience being in control of not just one ship in a very small fleet, but arguably the most important one. Having just gotten that promotion with all that baggage. I'm not saying it doesn't fit Michael's character, just that it's not the best move.

They mentioned getting reincorporated, so like, is this other person just parked in Adira or is it parked in the symbiote, where they getting this reincorporate thing from?

I think it was Culber who said he'd try to figure up some way to get Gray out of Adira's head and back into the real world. How that's going to work is anyone's guess -- hologram, robit, clone, mushroom magic, who knows.

He's Adira's dead boyfriend and the last host of their symbiote. Remember that Adira's human which is why she and Burnham had to go to Trill and swim in the sacred worm pool.
