I just ping it a few times and then go about my business. If several others repeatedly ping it a bit later I might ping it again if it’s in view, but otherwise I’ve already done my part.

Re: grenade mods on the PGL: I use the rocket jump OC because I can make it almost as good as some of the others at "Delete trash that just spawned" AND I get to go jumpies! Also I tried the Goo Bomber OC for the sludge pump and while it has some excellent and even truly abusive quircks (just jumping in front of a Dreadnaught and aiming a charged shot straight up is just WRONG and hilarious) I think I far prefer the Antri-Grav mix. Suddenly the sludge pump does something no other Driller primary does in that it just lets you reach out and melt someone.

Does the anti grav also apply to charged shots? That’s kind of intriguing. I usually pick sludge blast for that purpose…
|
# ? Jan 9, 2022 21:26 |

Yup. Doesn't apply to the chunks after the charge shot hits: those still fall normally. The charge shot itself has no drop though so it's great for laying a charge shot on a Praet or Dreadnaught/Bulk from a good ways away. You still have to adjust for travel time because it's a SLOW shot, but the Sludge Pump has the strange effect where if you're lucky a miss can do more damage than a hit.

I uh, should say I'm playing on PS4, since it was this month on playstation plus. Definitely great though. Got my engineer at the highest level, 11 or something, haha. Dunno if I'll focus on that to get a promotion or continue to spread it out based on what the team needs. Edit: Although that sounds like it would be equivalent to a power slam or whatever the pick axe upgrade is.

You're going to want to get at least one dorf up to 25 ASAP for promotion to unlock the meat of the game. Overclocks (powerful super-mods) for your weapons, the third primary weapon, deep dives (at least for any character you've promoted). Of course it's not that long of a trip so don't be afraid to do a mission or two as something else sometimes.

the one big bottleneck is promoting at least one dwarf at level 25, yeah. being able to do things that get you matrix cores is really nice and the sooner you're able to the better since they're slightly time-gated in a way in terms of availability.

I couldn't believe it when we pulled through

grieving for Gandalf posted:.. the meat of the game isn't until you promote? this is the best game ever made primarily you get access to deep dives, and those along with the weekly assignment separate from the 'normal' one will give you a blank matrix core, a weapon overclock core, and a cosmetic item core when you complete them. blank cores are used in little mini events that spawn in missions occasionally and if you complete them in time you get to insert a blank core and write it into an actual core out of a choice of 3 where it'll tell you which class they're all for and if they're a weapon mod or cosmetic. so with those you get a little bit more choice over the entirely random ones the other rewards in deep dives and whatever will give you. once you have a matrix core available you can craft it in the forge for a fee of credits and materials. basically they're not ESSENTIAL things exactly but weapon overclocks in themselves are a really fun way to further diversify weapons and maybe find ways to enjoy weapons you didn't much care for before. like a couple days ago i got one for the driller's subata pistol that turns it into a full-auto gun and that thing feels fun as hell compared to the normal one even if it's doing nothing other than turning it into a little smg of sorts. other overclocks do much wilder poo poo.

DuhSal posted:Is this game still good with 2 players or is 4 players the best option? 2 is a lot of fun. I've been playing a lot with a partner and we generally don't feel the loss of 2 classes abilities - as others have said the game scales down pretty good. That being said, 2 player means only 1 person to come save you when a loving cave leech picks you off Doretta and munches away. Which then grabs player 2 and ends in mission failure - that one is still a little raw.

The anti-leech perk isn’t bad! Especially for this kinda situation, horizontal leeches/thin wall leeches are a thing and sometimes the director spits out cluster hazard levels of leeches on normal maps 2-player usually means being more inventive with traversal, especially with a scout player who can’t combo. Mostly for engineer who will learn a lot about efficient platform stairs and other fun things if they haven’t done that already

I’ve been playing this game for years with 4 players and it’s great, but the other day I played through a series of games with just one other friend, it was also great. I found it less chaotic, with more of an emphasis on teamwork. Depending on what combo of classes you bring, your approach to combat or traversal completely changes. It’s neat and I wish there was an option to easily create public games with player caps.

Two player is a lot of fun. There will be times where you will say "drat this would be easy if one of us was a ______" so if that sort of thing rubs you the wrong way then it might not be for you. For my friend and I we just see it as a fun challenge, like built-in puzzles. you also know exactly who is to blame for calling Molly away right when you are getting ready to deposit. Heightened senses is a good perk to have because a cave leech can totally wipe the team, and Friendly is less useful because there's just fewer other players running around to accidentally hit.

Hello, I would like to be more flexible with my builds, but I feel like some perks (like, Thorns) are pretty much mandatory. Are there any passives or actives that are over or undervalued on different haz levels or numbers of dwarfs or whatever. And do you generally mix it up, or are all of your perk setups pretty much the same across all loadouts? Just curious how others play.

Every dwarf can reserve one of their weapon slots for grunt and swarm clearing; even Scout has the bouncy splash DRAK now. I don't bother switching up my perks much. My actives are always two out of Field Medic, Iron Will, Heightened Senses, and Dash, and my passives are always three out of Resupplier, Friendly, Elemental Resistance, and Born Ready(or Vampire on Driller).
