I just don't understand why they felt the need to bring back Margaret at all. She was never a very good or interesting character and has merely graduated from "a girlfriend trophy that Mordecai aspired to obtain" to "a hinderance to Mordecai's current, much better girlfriend." Meanwhile we don't get nearly enough Eileen.
I don't understand why they didn't wrap this terrible love triangle plot after the sea turtle episode. That was the perfect way to end it- Mordecai, Rigby, and Eileen get in trouble; CJ gets over her hatred of Margaret to call her; and Margaret swoops in on her news chopper to save the day. Seems to me that would be case closed.

As much as this terrible plot point has been dragging this show down, I'll admit that I'd rather see Mordecai with C.J. than Margaret. As raditts said, the only thing Margaret has going for her is that she was Mordecai's first love interest. Other than that, she's just boring. Admittedly, I'm biased because I find sass and sarcasm to be great qualities for a woman to have.

Well, that episode may have finally given us some closure, but who knows for how long?

The relationship stuff is always a drag but i think every episode this week had moments that made me laugh so there we go.
I can't argue with that. Even though I don't like the relationship story arc stuff, there are always funny moments that make it bearable to sit through. It's just that the endings make you think, "Welp, guess this isn't going to end yet." When it's just Mordecai and the guys getting into weird situations, there's more room for Regular Show to truly shine. But the recent love triangle is kind of an albatross around its neck. Maybe it all ended with Friday's episode, but I can't be sure, since I thought the same thing after the sea turtles episode.

CRINDY posted:

Part of this is that we're all adults getting mad about a cartoon bird who sucks at romance. Even though it's running the same concepts into the ground, it's good for the kids watching to have it reinforced that being a total chode about relationships is a really bad thing, even if the writing's not close to what Steven Universe or, to a lesser extent, Adventure Time pull off regularly. But at the same time, yeah, to say the writers are handling this well would not be an accurate statement.
It's also worth mentioning that Mordecai is based on J.G. Quintel himself, so I guess this could be his way of telling the 8-to-14 year old audience that makes up a good chunk of Regular Show's viewer base to not make the same mistakes he made. I think disowning the show for good is kind of an extreme step, though, since it had a lot of great moments before and it can still deliver them when it's not going hard on Mordecai being a loser (see: the latest Baby Ducks episode).

And funny you mention Thomas, because apparently he made a background appearance in "Dumped At The Altar." There's probably nothing to it.

I'd like to think that it already happened in "Dumped at the Altar" but at this point, who the hell knows. But Cartoon Network did renew Regular Show for another season (along with Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Uncle Grandpa, and Clarence) so we'll find out soon enough, if anyone still cares.

This season is so much better than the last one. It's easier to watch a character succeed (Rigby this season) than to see one constantly fall on his face in the most frustrating ways imaginable (Mordecai last season). And there are more episodes this season where it's just the guys getting into bizarre situations, even if many of them are callbacks to previous characters and situations.

Yeah, the suspicion among a lot of people was that Cartoon Network was trying to kill off Adventure Time and Regular Show, but I heard that they advertise the Saturday block pretty heavily during their Thursday night block of new episodes of their other shows. Also, the giant robot anime episode of Regular Show was on last Saturday.

That certainly qualifies.

As long as they keep cramming in the '80s references then it should be good, I guess. But I like the formula they've mostly stuck with for the past seven seasons.

Edit: Had time to think about it some more... that finale was garbage. Just when the show finally started to get its legs back, it throws a probably bullshit overarching plot into the next season. It should still be fun to watch, but man.

The sad thing about last season was that it was a good return to form, and Rigby's redemption story arc was far more enjoyable to follow than Season 6's horrible Mordecai love triangle arc. But to say it didn't stick the landing in the finale is an understatement. At least "Regular Show Season 8: Lost In Space" will give the show an opportunity to end on a good note, even though the cast of characters will be limited to the ones that aren't on Earth.

I wouldn't be surprised if JG Quintel is ending it because he wants to start something new.
