Serious Frolicking posted:wait, they figured out why bees are dying off? They don't know for sure yet but it's likely this particular pesticide: It's popular because it's very safe in people and you don't have to spray it, you just buy seeds that are coated in it and the plant takes up enough to remain quite resistant to insects for its lifespan. It gets into the pollen of the plant, bees eat the pollen. This in turn either kills the bees directly or else in combination with a bunch of other stuff in the environment makes the bees very vulnerable to a particular single celled bee parasite. What used to happen was the beehives would just suddenly be empty when you checked them apart from the nurses and the queen. The worker bees have more contact with pollen so they get higher doses than the hivebound bees. These days beekeepers are finding bees dead near the hive, suggesting there's a lot more poison by volume out there killing them more acutely. The EPA may act to restrict this particular pesticide and other similar ones as early as next year, however similar projects in Europe maybe two years ago haven't had great results, at least not yet, so maybe this is not the answer.

i always figured the looming ecological disaster brought on by bee extinction was an indication that the end times are upon us. but hey, at least the efforts to stop bee extinction have yet to show any results. death to humanity.

Why would there be a nail in a brick? The answer is that someone saw this mason bee, one of the 4000 species of bee native to the US, using a hole in the brick as its house and put a nail in it. What a jerk! Bee is pretty strong though.

Bees are good, imo. Lots of different types and sizes of bee. Some of them live underground. Some of them live up a tree. Some of them are tiny!
