For any leakers: Don't come in and say "WOW something BIG just happened. Can't give details. Just YOU wait" cough Derek cough If you can't even post even the tiniest detail of wtf you are talking about, just don't post until you can. No one will complain.

Yea I've seen poo poo like that at the scrapyard. Dust off a few straight ones, bolt a flat panel on top, paint it, have a fancy designer brand name, and rake in 500 bucks.

Goon: Doesn't seem like my cup of tea. Now excuse me, theres another code string in here I haven't solved yet and I just may finally find out how much those breakroom chairs cost. My Little Pony plushies seem to get a lot of "action" from the older crowd so I'd go with action figures personally.

Gapey Joe Stalin posted:I would argue, from my position of admitted ignorance, that they lack the requisite number of points of articulation to qualify as 'action figures' and as such should be regarded as somewhere between a doll and an ornament. Over time and through plenty of love they often become stiff enough for just such points of said articulation.

BattleMaster posted:I love the movie and loved that commentary track so much except for the parts where they stop talking about the philosophy of the film in order to talk about the special effects. The special effects were (and still are) really nice but drat the film was a good bit of satire. I get that its satire. But satire of what. The book? I've never seen the director commentary.

BattleMaster posted:Verhoeven tried reading the original Starship Troopers book by Heinlein, gave up a couple chapters in because it was a love letter to fascism (it was written when Heinlein was going through a very militarily-optimistic phase and he used the book as a vessel for his views which he had come under attack for) and went and did his own thing using just the broad strokes of the plot and setting and used it as a criticism of optimistic militarism/might makes right. Large chunks of the movie are inspired by propaganda newsreels (not just the famous "would you like to know more?" parts), the characters wear uniforms heavily inspired by WW2 Germany's, and a lot of the dialogue is about how violence and war is good and just. This is juxtaposed with things like how all the people who earned their citizenship through military service and came back alive were crippled in some way, and how executions are broadcast on TV and advertised like sporting events. Heinlein wasn't a fascist though. Stranger in a Strange Land was a socialist paradise. No one accuses him of being a commie. He was a sci fi writer doing worldbuilding. Excellent movie though and I did like the tongue in check stuff. First watched it when I was like 11 and scared for life in the first klendathu scene.

Honestly they can shovel out whatever poo poo they want to and call it whatever and most likely be good legally. They're only hard legally liable for physical backer rewards. As far as I can see nothing illegal has been done. Just unethical/incompetent poo poo. edit: They'll just be banned from kickstarter like that fem frequency lady is. But I doubt they'd care after getting 100 mil on their own website.

Altran posted:I like space sims, while Star Citizen has been on the news for plenty of reasons, I had never looked into it or pledged the kickstarter. My question is, despite all the controversies it generates, it seems a great game on youtube and when it releases, should I pre-order it or pledged the kickstarter to gain release date advantage still? If in 2021 Star Citizen releases and is actually good. Like a .1% chance of this occurring. You should buy it for 60 bucks like a normal person. That's my plan anyway.
